Braunston services.

Just for info should you be heading for Braunston with full cassettes...

Both the Elsan points are blocked. The one near the swindlers has been for some time out of action. Now the second is U/S.

Reported this at the office this morning. Several CRT staff present, little interest shown, which was dissapointing. We did report by phone in order that it was logged.

Happy boating.

Given that Braunston has two, it is somewhere that I never worry about not being able to empty, so that's alarming! I wonder if Posh Tim will be permitting folk to use the marina one for a purchase/small charge?

If not, I suppose the next one is the Buckby flight in one direction, Hillmorton locks in the other and-not sure, Calcutt for the third?

The elsan disposal unit at Napton has also been out of action for seseveral weeks, despite being frequently reported.

The one at Bucby is firn (used it today!)

I have tried - honest - but just cannot fit "firn" into the relevance of a blocked elsan disposal unit.

According to Google it is :-

crystalline or granular snow, especially on the upper part of a glacier, where it has not yet been compressed into ice.

I'm always reluctant to rely on that one though - it has been the subject of repeated blockages.

The situation with the one at Braunston Turn is quite unacceptable, given that it is one of the very used one. It has gone on for weeks now.

Wish they would spend money on these, rather than looking at yet more Visitor Mooring schemes.

Sounds like a CRT conspiracy to get everyone to use pump out toilets smile.png

No, CART have been practicing this tactic along the Kennet and Avon with broken water points and elson's.

One would think that it's part of a wider scheme from CART, to get all constant Moorers to move.

Trouble is, it also makes it awkward for the Constant Cruisers that actually cruise the system too, or is that thought just in pure conjecture?

The EA is explicit about this tactic. There are three public Elsans on the 60 miles of the Nene, and the middle one, at Wellingborough, is closed for the winter (November - March).

How do they break in the first place ?

It is often / sometimes / never / always (choose your own) down to boats with self-pumpout equipment overloading the system and blocking it. Trying to put down 100s of litres when the system is just designed for a small flush, or at most a 17-20 litre cassette.

A while ago Dean posted some pictures of a 'blow-back' where a self-pumper-outer had used the elsan disposal - Mr Who-Flung-Dung did not hang around to clear up.

Napton elsan is fully operational today.

In fairness, although it's always C&RT who get 'the stick' it's us that blocks them !

Not completely correct. It has been confirmed by several CaRT paople that the design of the waste pipe incorporates a very tight bend which blocks easily. No one has suggested a solution yet!!
