  1. Thank you for that. I just thought that whilst the roof was being stripped, it was a good time to upgrade. I have gone for the 4x4 antenna as a bit of future proofing, ready for a 5g router when required. I will have a play with the connections when it all goes back together and forget the splitter.
  2. Sorry to resurrect a very old post, but it does give context. The set up fitted in 2016 has served us very well, even enabling due to a change in circumstances, Ali to work off the boat over the last few summers. At the moment, the boat roof is being repainted and removal of the Fullband dome antenna is required, so it seems a good time to upgrade our system a little. The Huawei mifi is still working, but becoming some what old technology now. As previously stated, I am a technophobe. I propose to replace the existing dome antenna with a Fullband FB4X4MINIDOME and the mifi with a TP-Link MR600 (V3) router. In fact I have these ready to fit once the roof is ready. Already linked the existing antenna to the new router on our trip to the painters and it worked fine. But... The new antenna has four leads. The router has two sma antenna ports. Do I try using just two of the leads, or could I try using a Tuolink sma splitter cable (sma male to dual sma female), or would this compromise signal quality? Appreciate your thoughts.
  3. Must admit, we pootled past the gathering last year. Not having a historic craft, we were transparent. We know our place.
  4. Ours is 58'6". The C&H was fine, with care and going Katy corner up. But you had to be aware of the walkway. I think ours is comfortably a go anywhere size, without restricting living accommodation. 🤔
  5. Was that last year? Lovely lass, totally different to the gentleman off the ice cream boat who occasionally covered, who was an arrogant bar sreward, in my humble opinion. Pleasant young chap this summer.
  6. We use tablets on the boat in the main. As location works on a GPS connection, it often helps to take the device outside of the boat, thus annulling the Faraday cage that is the boat. Quickly finds our mapping location then. Find it odd that even with an external aerial on our mifi,it takes physically taking the device out of the confines of the boat, to get the correct location.. But I am a dim technophobe.
  7. Hozelock 1 Inch BSP (33.3 mm) Pro Metal Outdoor Tap (for Larger Taps More Than 33.3 mm Diameter) https://amzn.eu/d/b8S7aIL Ordered one to add to my connector collection!
  8. The tinternet was brilliant for us above Trevor, hence why we spent so much time up there, as it allowed Ali to work easily. Became rather familiar with the trip boat schedule and the winding hole at Bryn Howell. And.... it was very quiet. Try Gales wine bar for food. Simple menu, we'll done. They also serve a rather nice IPA.
  9. I would estimate that the tap has a brass thread of approx 1 inch diameter, far bigger than the standard hozelock adaptor. Yep, exactly the same.i carry a good supply of various adaptors, but not one to fit these taps. Wondering if anyone local to the area has any idea. Fosse locks services a bit further from Leamington, normal service resumes. Tap and adaptor in perfect harmony once again.
  10. Now five days allowed in the basin. We spent a few weeks bimbling twixt Trevor and Llangollen this summer( Ali working off the boat!) Rather nice mooring on rings just past the lift Bridge going upstream. Cracking view of Castell Dinas Bran. We are about 27" and had no problems atoll.
  11. Coming down the GU In to Warwick, we tried to top up the water tank at the services top of Hatton. The thread on the tap appears non standard, certainly larger than the normal Hozelock connector we usually use. Same below the locks at the Cape of good hope( had a cracking Sunday lunch yesterday). Is there a new standard, or am I as usual being a little dense?😋
  12. https://photos.app.goo.gl/DXHCtYybyx7yyPxH8 Yesterday, water point above Kingswood junction.
  13. Hiya. We had a trip to RHS Bridgewater at Worsley recently, mooring just past the marina (from your direction of travel) on the same side as the RHS. Great moorings and quiet. I am sure someone with more local knowledge will be along soon.
  14. I personally don't have any recent experience of Castlefield, but we have been on the Bridgewater in recent months. Which route are you taking?
  15. Came up the Wolverhampton 21 today heading for the Black Country Museum. Water crystal clear, but full of weed. The blanket weed being the worst. Even judicial reverse every 100 m didn't prevent an engine stall when something more substantial got tangled in the mess. Thus far no weed hatch exploration, yet! At least you can see the plastic bags!
  16. It is a thing of joy when you and the oncoming boat complete the dance though. Sadly, a more rare occurrence in recent times. We have been bobbing up and down the upper Golly for the last month or so. A sad reflection has been the lack of understanding of downstream and upstream etiquette in relation to bridges and narrows. Not hirers by the way.
  17. 67 now. One knee replaced and the other fair knackered! Still love it, but the once shiny boat has dulled and after 12 years ownership, the engine hours now stand at 6700. Like me, certain parts of the boat need attention. But hey ho,we age and wear and tear in tandem, I know the boats foibles and it knows mine.
  18. As we intend to wend our way back towards the E midlands via Brum and Warwick from Llangollen, I have been monitoring crt stoppages, especially Audlem. Facebook posts make the liklihood of closure imminent, but counter posts contradict this. Think we will ignore Facebook posts and keep our fingers crossed.
  19. Our shoreline fridge is now 12 years old. It still works, but perhaps not as well as it once did. We have replaced the thermostat and a door seal, but think the odd times in the last few years when temperatures exceeded 30 degrees, pushed it over the edge. Can't really complain at that though. The original fitting was in a virtual sealed box, with little ventilation. Whilst i have improved this, I'm sure it stressed the fridge initially.
  20. I would love to know just where this thing entered the water? The chap who warned him the section he was entering was prohibited from powered craft and was shallow, was greeted by "It's a car, we have wheels". The prop on his outboard certainly did some weed cutting!
  21. This morning we finally moored up in Llangollen basin. All quite civilised and quiet. In early afternoon, a boat moored up in one of the corner slots, moved out, so as you do, we began relocating to that spot. As we were doing this, something blue went past the entrance and upstream towards Horshoe falls. I assumed it was a kyak or similar, but no, it was some form of aqua car! The chap exiting the marina shouted to them, no powered boats, but on they went. By the time we had moored up, they were out of sight. Later in the afternoon, we went for a walk towards the falls and saw this...
  22. We prefer using hire bases in the absence of fuel boats for diesel. They have a high turn over of fuel, so less chance of crud. I must say, over the years, have always had great service from Anglo Welsh bases. In fact today, refuelled at Trevor. Best to avoid handover days though.
  23. In 2016 I fitted our boat with an external aerial connected to a Huawei mifi, permanently connected to a power source. It has served us well. We use an EE data sim. As my better half has worked off the boat in recent years, decent Internet is imperative. Thus, we consult the EE 4g coverage map to decide on a mooring. It has proven really accurate. Even tonight, slightly out of the best 4g reception, we have watched TV programmes on catch up . We rarely deploy a TV aerial. The external aerial really makes the difference.
  24. Divert to the Golly. Loadsa liquid and ( whispers ) Not that busy. Bimbled up as far as Whitchurch thus far. 😋
  25. https://www.aquavista.com/buy-a-floating-home How long before we see these on the cut?
