Some very mixed messages in this thread.......

If the latest posting proves to be true, it is surely further fuel to the "new versus secondhand" thread.

If a popular builder, (surely now one of the most popular?), like Reeves is indeed a casualty, (is it ?), one wonders about the viability of many of the others apparently turning out a more indifferent product.

(It seems a very strange coincidence should the information posted about last Thursday also be true, though!.....)

That is sad, if true.

A well respected builder turning out good quality, mid-range, hulls.

Quite a shock. I liked the Reeves Hulls, including the forend. The Milburn fitted Reeves Ownership boat we used to have a share in was very nice.

Well if true it's certainly becoming a trend.

This sort of backs is my theory that we're in for further recession or even a double dip. I notice lately that there's a lot of good companies suffering who supply the middle market, by that I mean people who can usually afford to buy bespoke and will still have money to spare for nice fixtures and fittings.

We have a kitchen maker on our estate, all hand made good quality and makes bespoke kitchens for many clients in London and home counties as well as local . 6 months ago they couldn't churn the stuff out quick enough and were bringing in sub contractors to get work completed. They recently just after xmas then made over half the staff redundant, and a few more have gone in the past 2 weeks. I've chatted with owner and although he's maintained quality advertising and customer satisfaction the enquiries started to dry up in Nov/ Dec 2011

A boat builder I know who specialises mostly in quality high spec Dutch barges, also seems to have slowed down having only one boat on the go when there's usually been 3.

I'm in the removal business and this has dramatically slowed again since May 2011 and 3 decent shops in our high street have gone in the past 3 months.

I would have thought with a company with the reputation of Reeves if it is in trouble, someone might jump in and save it, maybe another boat building company. Thing is though if their struggling too sell new boats, then there's little point.

Can we have confirmation of Milburn Boats posting before we speculate please?

Richard

Hang on here. Reeves suffered a break in. Nowt else. Milburn seem to have ceased. Are they connected in business?

Martyn

Here's a good reason not to speculate. I read it as Reeves having the "collectors" in. We have now started a rumour that Milburn are in receivership.

I read it that Milburn (still trading) have in the past built on Reeves (not still trading) shells.

The reference to Graham (I assume Reeves) seemed to say that.

I admit though that the way Milburn have posted looks a bit odd, so perhaps they could clarify their meaning.

Certainly Milburn's web-site works right now, aand Reeves doesn't, (although if they have had computers pinched that I assume could explain that!).

No body has said for defo yet, but looking at the post regarding Milburn (no7), doesn't that poster have a similar screen name?

Surely it's not a sick joke.

Martyn

Old post......

Milburn Boats

Edited to add:

Their site clearly shows a relationship to Reeves to the extent that at least half a dozen boats they have fitted have been based on reeves shells......

Reeves phone wasn't being answered at 11-45 just now - However, if there were no phones plugged in to the line because they had been stolen, I wouldn't expect it would / could be answered, although

after a day or so I am sure a single phone would have been able to be rigged up, or a divert done at the exchange to a cellphone.

Nick. Why have you quoted my post when Reeves is not mentioned in that post?

????????????????????

I was just showing that Milburn, despite a very low post count, have been registered some time, and appear to have asked to have a link to their site on CWDF, some time back.

They don't look "fictitious" to me, unless they have faked a whole series of boat fittings out they have not actually done!

Not sure what you are asking me, really ??????????????????????/

I read it as Milburn saying that Reeves were in receivership and the Graham referred to is the "G" part of G&J Reeves.

I believe that association between the two companies is that Milburn has built many boats on Reeves shells and are located only a few miles away.

Somebody needs to clear this up!

Milburn website does say they've worked in association with reeves on certain projects.

It looks like Milburn have registered here to promote themselves, no harm in that and that's why so few posts. You would have thought tough if true that something would appear on a google search with regard to such news, even local newspapers websites.

Alan, even more than that.

Their boat History page states that "Unless otherwise stated, all boatss based on Reeves Boatbuilders hull". Milburn misspelling of boats, not mine!

An example of that would be the dozens of boats built for Ownerships some years ago, many with the trademark through lounge which required the front well to drain via the cabin bilge to the engine compartment, gas lockers at the stern and integral water tank at the bow.
