Asking for a friend.  When living on a boat, and having an address with friends or relatives, the DWP assumes that the convenience address is where you live, and they base their payment on that. Does anyone have any idea if it would make any difference if my friend were to let them know that they lived on a boat, without causing them more trouble, that is?

I think the OP may be confusing winter fuel allowance, paid to all recipients  state pension and some benefits, with the cold weather payments,  paid to those eligible when the average (?)  temperature at the registered location falls below a set value for more than a set period.

The first is not address based, the second is.

Thank you, Tracy. It is paid directly into your account, my friend just wondered whether it made a difference to their calculations if you were on a boat or in a house.

BEngo, thank you too. No confusion, it is advice from the "Winter Fuel Payment Centre."

I don't think it would be worth rattling their cage over it, though.

There are no calculations as such. If you are if the correct age you get, regardless of where or how you live.

OK

So looked at the Govt website and it spends time telling me historic facts.

That is no use to me when what I want go know is why I've not had any extra this winter. Is it because that Starmer has put it in to his own bank account or is it because the DWP have it in theirs?

I expected to get £200 before Xmas, having worked through all the information published by the govt..I've had nothing. What do I do now?

PS in tbe last week ive spent £100 on diesel, £200 on solid fuel, £160 on food.. Gas £50. Not to mention £200 in to the 'boat account"' just had a reminder from Three, another £40!

Tighten your budget like thousands of other pensioners are having to do.

I suggest you start paying more income tax so older people dont have to live on rhe breadline.

I worked in every year from age 12 to age 67. . I paid income tax. That was supposed to pay for the pension, and not have poverty. The UK pension is one of the worst in Europe .

Blame Starmer !

Then decide if you want to "eat or heat" along with 10 million other pensioners

No doubt hes made the oaps a target.  Five years of his govt and he will be responsible for directly killing off 16K oldies. Most others will not vote for his party after his rule, it wont bother him.

Apparently you can only get the winter fuel payment now if you claim extra benefits like pension credit ect on top of your ordinary OAP. But if you claim extra benefits to get the WFP and you have more than £11,000 in savings beware, Starver and Co have threatened to snoop on claimers bank accounts and tax interest on your savings, from this month.

As per my post. To claim extra benefits in order to get the WFA you have to check if your elegable and then apply for it.

No, just the once, but beware of them checking on your savings! Once agreed by them it would be payed automatically into your bank account, but keep a check of your statements.

DWP's website say's. If your winter fuel payment has not arrived by 29th January, contact them.  But I don't think this applies anymore. Starver has changed things.  But it's worth trying.  Do you claim any extra DWP benefit payments other than the standard pension. if so you should get it if you apply.

Its rounded up, two contracts about £17.99 each. I cant cope with these things.

The phone works and the internet works. No stress. I could save a fiver, but its too much hassle. The phone is purchased from the Three, and it works.

That was pre Starver govenment, I don't think it applies anymore unless you're getting any extra DWP benefits on top of the ordinary pension- Are you?

I thought I was. The whole system is very complex. Not the same rules for everyone.

There is no such thing as the 'ordinary pension" any more
