That is why they invented lights. You need to get some

Lights, you say? Surely you’re old enough not to need a night light? :D

It’s ruined our early starts, used to get woken on the shareboat by light-creep through the mushroom vent and back hatch and kind of guage what time it was, now it’s so dark we keep sleeping in. Need to arrange better early morning alarm calls with the local ducks and their jackhammers ;)

We find that, if I cover the bullseye you have no idea of the time in the back cabin

I covered the bullseye for several years.

One day came back to the smell of burning...and the lens had focussed the sun onto the board I had used as covering.

It was just.....one freak time....when the sun was at a certain angle.

Another half hour and the boat would have been gone.

Incidents like that have been reported by the BSS and it is on their check list, I cover mine on the outside

Don't tell me any similar horror stories about roof prisms, i'm not listening (hands over ears) LALALALALALA can't hear you.

They are blocked with close fitting foam bungs when we're not onboard, and sometimes when we are.

I experienced scorching from the bull’s eye. Another Norton Canes moorer, a scientist, suggested a solution. I cut a circle from frosted Perspex and stuck it to the flat bottom of the eye with silicon. No loss of light, problem solved.

  • 2 weeks later...

I used to own Hattie, sold her in 2018 via Rugby Boats.

Current owners have let her down though as the interior is not what it was. Beautful joinery (African Walnut, crown cut oak and ash ceiling) need looking after with good polish. The amazing Ron Hough artwork, especially in the boatmans cabin is peeling, no doubt due to being laid up, unventilated and damp .... sacrilege.

If you need any detailed info let me know. I've got the whole history!

All the best with your search.

It's quite an old boat, perhaps some intervention is needed to rein-viagra‐orte it.

rein-viagra‐orte-ation isn't always an option. According to a friend! 😟

Just had a look at Hattie on the Rugby Boats website.

That rear fender is a crime.

The rear fender is a quick fix. However, the amount of condesation damage to the cabinetry/woodwork due to lack of ventilation, especially to Ron Hough's amazing work (scumbling is peeling off in the boatmans cabin) is awful. If any water has got into joints/bottom of panelling, it's only a matter of time before it breaks through. In mine and previous owners custody, the quality was virtually unmatched. Even the curtains have been removed and disposed of due to mould, they cost me a pretty penny in 2018.

It's interesting seeing a boat you have owned. I have seen some of mine and it's always disappointing to see the deteriation under subsequent owners.

At least when this one goes I won't be about on the system to see it.

It would sell for the right price to an experienced boater who appreciates quality. However, many will see through rose tinted specs and not consider water/damp damage to the electrics (a 24v Mastervolt inverter/charger ain't cheap to replace) as well as the Leece Neville alternator. I do Hope you will be around!

I often note the same when seeing other peoples boats on the system that they have sold.

Probably a good choice looking at how Hattie has been neglected by the present owners, I reckon it will go for.£10-15k less than asking eventually. If you are going to be greedy, at least make an effort to polish the turd( disclaimer, Hattie is NOT a turd, but could do with some attention if they want top dollar for a very traditional boat which are not the in-demand boat at present)
