And now another question to ponder on, this image was on a 1901 dated post card, an early post card.

 

It shows a river ferry, but where?

Give us a clue: Is there still a ferry service?

Perhaps a Thames ferry. There were many of these.

Yes the Thames was my first thought,

even crossed me mind it could be that Goring again,

 

not a lot to go on,

the house has a well in the garden,

but it’s take someone with very local knowledge to identify it through that,

 

I would expect there might still to be a ferry service, 🤷‍♀️

is there owt on the Thames that’s fit the bill?

The chain ferry and general appearance made me think that it could be Bablock Hyth before the new pub was built, but the original house seems to be at right angles to the river, not facing it.

 

I also think a lot of the Thames ferry houses were bungalows.

that’s interesting to me,

I wasn’t aware there were Ferry Houses,

but obvious now you say,

 

maybe this isn’t so difficult to identify if there’s someone with local knowledge.

The house is very similar to the Cliveden ferry below Cookham. The problem is there is a chiltern escarpment behind it with rising ground but its not impossible there is some artistic licence as it not a photo.

 

The open ground on the left implies parkland so a stately home was nearby I think. 

 

Another possibility is the Ferry at Hambleden but the house if there was one is long gone.

 

Quite narrow so maybe further up the River. 

 

It also has a feel of Spade Oak ferry but the shape of the house is wrong.

 

One does wonder how accurate these old paintings are. Looks like a nice little vegetable patch in front of the house but this could just be to make the picture more engaging.

Yeah, there’ll be loads of artist license,

or just shit draughtsmanship,

but there ought to be key elements,

we need a clue I think?

Big house next door but it may have been open land and the building could easily be condensed to show a pleasant residence.

Given the date, it is without doubt the Manchester Ship Canal.

Easy, Hampton Ferry in Evesham.

Somewhere, I do have a screen grab from Farson Digital Webcams of me moving a boat from Gloucester to Stowe Hill.....I hadnt even realised I was that close to Evesham,  and went through at full pelt!...it was early in the year though.

Re The Avenue Bridge 

I’m sure the supports are sandstone. I suspect they were possibly machine turned as it looks to be quite soft stone. As you can see they’ve been carved with graffiti 😡That couldn’t be done with cast concrete, there’s no joins I can see which would probably be the case if cast/ moulded 

They are sand coloured.

 

Theres quite a lot of that colour sandstone around that area, such as Kinver Aust cliff and Debdale.

Yes Matty has it, the view is River Avon near Evesham and another case of congratulations

 

I passed over the Simon de Monfort Bridge near Evesham yesterday, the river levels were definitely high.

Perhaps the clue was linked to it being a photo taken during a cruise of 3 boats with a man in each boat.

It could be Oxford though.

 

Or based on past form of @Heartland it may very well be cryptic.
