Surely a big barge weighs more than a little one.

Archimedes. He invented the screw as well didn’t he? ?

Correct.  And a full one weighs more than an empty one.

Is this a wind-up? :D

Oh, don't get in a twist about it or we'll be going round and round for ages. :giggles:

Perhaps it should have its own thread.

It's the cited source on the wiki article.

There's an account on Wiki which looks as if it has been translated from French.

Actually, no good reason other than it looks it - in as far as it has that traditional, vintage look about it. Maybe that's just how they've had it fitted out/painted.

I would suggest that is the case, I bet it looks older than yours now, or it did last time I saw it, quite shabby to what it was.

Wide barge or narrowboat?

Loaded wide barge vs narrowboat :)

I do. Historical accuracy should always be respected - if it isn't, the wrong info circulates on the internet and after a while everyone believes it.

I think I lost my fight against the growing tide of rubbish on the internet about 10 years ago when there was four 'historic' narrow boat websites all copying information from all over the place without checking anything. What appeared to give their information great credibility is that they all had pretty much the sale details, but this was only because they also copied from one another.

The vast majority of my work is based upon first hand research, and my records continue to grow on an almost daily basis. By and large my work is still questioned as it differs so much to those websites, even though three of them shut down a long time ago :captain:

This day 2018 battling through the weed on Burgundy canal south of Dijon. Good job we had keel cooling. The weed cutter above the lock is broken.
