  1. We have winded our pair in Horninglow basin at the water point,do able with care, one of our customers has a 12" wide beam and was there last week. But as others have said air draft can be a problem.
  2. think the queue may be longer than anticipated
  3. any idea of the numbers they would need for a -Run-? We have to buy a set number of units at a time from Bcm to get a half decent price, and then I still have spend time trying to resolder 40 to 50% of them and that's not to hold water just to stay together!
  4. You would need to change your insurance on the motor for towing, register them as a pair. licence will run at the same start date.Despite what some may say you would need someone on the butty while towing on cross straps as wind, passing boats,by wash, people running their engine in gear tied up all affect the way the butty behaves,
  5. We used a firm in Nottingham for the Butty, can't remember the name at the mow, but seem to think they are on Canal street, the price was right and the service was good.
  6. We have a greyhound and lurcher, they both are fine of the lead round locks although we do check for small fury's before letting him go.the one and only down side is being in a small cabin with a greyhound with gas! he can take the varnish off!
  7. I /we move with our boat and butty all year round, most of the advise given is right, you have to see what work's for you. The thing that most people forget is its not towing or steering thats the problem,Its Stopping! I'm 16 stone so have a bit body weight to help,It will put you on your bum at sometime.
  8. Pj Barber sheet store Long Eaton did our butty and has done several stretches ,Can only say as you find and we are more than pleased with his work http://www.pjbarberboatbuilderltd.co.uk/
  9. He does it all himself from start to finish, and i think he does inboard engines now. ( i used to supply him with fenders when we moored down that way).
  10. My Dad says the boats used to go up to the Mill at the back of Monday street when he was a kid
  11. we usually sell coal on the Witham during winter but not going down there this year(long story), Poklington at Boston will deliver to Lincoln, haven't got his number to hand but google him, he is a Boston but his lorrys go all over Lincolnshire. Would highly recommend "Burnwell" that he sells a NONE type approved smokeless, good heat very low ash and stays in all night. hope that helps.
  12. i always wonder why everyone looked at me a bit strange
  13. We may be able to get,(not going back to Lincolnshire this winter) will let you know nearer the time

  15. Hi, we are not selling the boat we have part chopped for our new boat,so Whilton own it now.She has been a good boat for us for the past 6-7 years. Got blacked every year ( the butty was always coming out for work so had them both out at the same time). Our new boat is JJinad a Barry Hawkins boat . and Pink Floyd in 2000 words ,If i have to explain you just ain't going to get it!!!
  16. Been up and down this river a few times wife hates i just get on and do it.First thing is get a chart, yes you can do it with out but why for the sake of a few (4?) quid. Talk to the lock keepers, ask daft questions you wouldn't be the first. If "fred" did it last week in 3 hours you may not,its a river it has good days and bad days. But more importantly than anything else enjoy it.
  17. We have one of these in Numb's back cabin http://www.kurandamarine.co.uk/dickinson-heating-and-cooking/dickinson-diesel-heaters can only speak as you find and think it will do everything you want.

  19. The Trent is a lovely river take your time enjoy.Keep a eye on the weather as it has a Large catchment area, Respect it for what it is,Loads of good Pubs in Newark and a long the way.
  20. The Billinghay bit (skirth) will have to be a "push me pull you" job as there is no winding hole up near "Chamberlain bridge" saying that Reg from the Little boat co took one of his little narrow boats up there a few years back, South Kyme gathering is brill, WND water levels will be up after that i think, try ringing Sam at Grand Sluice lock who i think has the job of riding his bike up to Anton's Gowt and letting the water in. enjoy.
  21. I think you will just have to just go out there and see for yourself,We had 2-3 years just trying place's untill we found what works for us. go to shows and talk to the traders most of us don't bite (well not hard anyway).
