  1. A few years ago I was moored in a town (can't remember where) beneath a street light. My solar panels were giving about 0.3 amp.
  2. My boat is in Fenny Compton marina on the summit level. If it sits on the bottom there will be big problems as the water is about 7 or 8ft. deep. I hope the management will slacken the mooring ropes if the level falls as I can't visit for at least a month due to other things going on.
  3. This was last night's Atlantic pressure chart. The extreme low of 938 mb has a scientific name. It's a Zebra's A**hole. I nearly wet myself when I read this!
  4. Is that the river Trent? Where are they going?
  5. Back in the day of working boats, there must have been sinkings. How were boats re-floated? Was it a case of ropes, muscle and buckets?
  6. What is a PRN please?
  7. That house is an eyesore. The chimney breast on the right is just plain wrong. Someone told me the build had something to do with "Westerns". ie. It's an Indian owner and a Cowboy builder. One of the gable end walls fell over in a gale before the roof was on.
  8. I was on the summit last week, (boat kept at Fenny marina), and it didn't seem very low, no dragging the bottom. I went down Claydon on Saturday morning and one of the pounds was about a foot low. I guess the summit may get low by late afternoon if a lot of boats use Claydon and Napton locks. The level recovers overnight. Last August the locks were only open for 4 or 5 hours a day.
  9. On the Hatton flight I've had fisher folk ask me to stir things up a bit as I went from one lock to the next.
  10. If you arrive at moorings and there are git gaps but no other space, is it ok to move an un-attended boat along to make space or is touching another boat a no-no? I have moved other boats a couple of times.
  11. Back last winter I forgot to turn off my Surflow water pump. I did turn off the water isolater valve. When I returned a few months later I could hear the pump running and thought, that will need a new pump. However it's been working fine, so running dry doesn't seem to be a problem.
  12. Was that for the rum?
  13. I think tomorrow is February 1st. not April 1st. Perhaps there is some water in the ditch given the recent rain.
  14. Why did they moor using the centre rope? I would have thought that as soon as the boat was near the bank under the bridge, the bow line would have been best.
  15. As a slight aside to this thread, I inadvertantly left my Shurflo Trailking 10 pump turned on with the water tank valve closed when I left the boat earlier this year. When I returned about 6 weeks later the pump was still running, and has been fine ever since. So these pumps are OK running dry for long periods. Dixi.
  16. I've never had a problem with rats or mice on my boat but have wondered if those cone things on ropes that ships used to use would be a good idea. Dixi.
  17. Bournemouth hospital needs a "Where's the Exit". I get lost trying to find the way out.
  18. If the bridges are not locked when down, then it is easy to leave them open and just carry on as we do now. The problem is when someone on the path/track wants to cross. There is no way they can close the bridge. I can see a situation where I open the bridge and leave it for the following boat to close but they leave it open as that is how they found it. Dixi.
  19. There is an american saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
  20. I nearly crashed whilst thinking why the sign was there!🙂
  21. Once upon a time we had a thing called "British Standards". What happened to that?
  22. How about afternoon tea?🙂
  23. Used to see "Rosie and Jims" on lots of boats. Don't often see them now.
  24. Most marinas are only 3 to 4 foot deep. My boat is in Fenny marina on the Oxford canal summit. A boat sank a few years ago and and only the top of the roof was visible. I guess the water is about 7 foot deep. If there was a breech the mooring lines would have to be slackened pretty quickly to avoid problems, though I suppose the level would only drop 3 feet as the Oxford is quite shallow. Dixi.
