Hi All
Great run up the Trent to Keadby it was a bit windy and rough in places but sun was out all the way. Clipped the wall again getting into the lock, but all I n all not too bad. Had a leisurely two day trot up to Blue Water Marina (the Vazon rail bridge is now fixed and available anytime) we are now refuelled and tucked up on our berth.
Thanks for all the words of wisdom, it was a great help and for our first voyage we could not be happier!
Time to do some tinkering on the boat to make her ours then onto new canals and more exploration👍😀

Strewth!
If I'd called out The Emergency Services every time I'd stemmed up and couldn't get off since 1966, I'd be so well known to them they'd be inviting me to their Christmas parties.

Over the last few days I have visited/transited a couple of rarely used locks, they were:
Jesus Lock, River Cam. The trip along the Backs is only permitted in the Winter. Note the swing bridge for accessing the lock island.
Richmond Half Tide Lock Only required to be used for a couple of hours around low tide and is chargable

Well we bought it, i’ve now moved it with my Father-in-law as far up the Oxford as stoppages allow to a temp marina until we find somewhere further north.

But sea toilets are not banned on canals! Only the discharge other than to a holding tank is not allowed.

That was probably a group of volunteers I'm involved with currently working on the T&M and north part of the Coventry Canal. We start at 9am and finish around 3pm with a couple of breaks in between. We are trained to use pole-chainsaws, the wood chipper, and helm the workboat. For the last 4 years we've been doing the offside vegetation (we are all boat owners) but this year we've been instructed to do the towpath side. We initially refused but when it was obvious CRT weren't going to budge we reluctantly agreed after they promised we could revert to doing the offside next winter.
The main reason we agreed albeit reluctantly, was that if we came across any particularly bad overgrowth on the offside we could 'sneak' over and sort it .
Some of my fellow volunteers will have some of our wood for themselves but there's always more of it so we let boaters have some if they ask, and we will usually cut them down to more manageable sizes for them.

i can't help but disagree with this. Brokers by and large are in it to sell boats. Any broker over-pricing a boat is not going to succeed in selling it, or at least not without a LOT of effort and time in conducting dozens of viewings for probably no result. Brokers tend therefore, to price boats quite accurately for the market so while you will won't get a bargain, you won't get horribly oversold either.
Another reason to use a broker is they usually have docking and survey facilities on hand. Most private sellers don't so you either have to buy with no survey, or someone has to go through considerable effort to get the boat to a dock and book a surveyor.

It is greased lubrication for the rocker shafts on JPs, all were built with it. Later JKs are oil fed. My junk bin has lots of worn out JP rocker shafts in it from engines that were not greased properly. We always convert JPs to oil feed when we restore them. Way better to have the JK set up.

It is in the North, so perhaps CaRT have followed government policy and been Leveling Up the canal bed?

We'd have loved to be there. Dave and I had a long very circular conversation which revolved around me saying we have to be there and Dave bringing me down to earth with it's over 3 hours in the car, you'll need a day to recuperate, it'll be over by then. Too late to book a couple of days off work for Dave. In my ideal world we'd be heading up there now so I could rest in preparation.
I'll be there in spirit, holding up a bottle of Newkie Brown in memory of a dear friend.

It's a PUBLIC discussion forum, it isn't up to you who joins in that discussion!
And you got lots of your "facts" wrong.

We love our Elton Moss boat. Its an older 2005 one and is an ex-shareboat. No idea where it is in the 'quality' scale, but it seems sturdy... No issues other than me not understanding stuff really!
