  1. I would go clockwise to get Harecastle tunnel out of the way and if you are ahead of time when you get to Nantwich you could detour up the Llangollen Canal for a bit or head to Chester before returning via the Middlewich branch. I suggest you moor above Wardle lock on the last night and start early on the last day to get through the last 4 locks.

  16. They cut the final scene where our heroine jumped from the towpath - it didn't show her hit the side of the boat! Well, there was no way she was gonna make it aboard at that distance after a dodgy run up in her stockinged feet, now was there...

  22. Sorry for late input, but just redrill and tap 4 new holes by turning mushroom by 10 degrees, fill the old hole with sealant, and the existing filled holes. Then you know you have 4 strong points sealed how you want them sealed. Far easier than drilling out old screws and trying to remove stuff.

  33. My seller is cheaper than the one you found - free postage, and I can verify pretty speedy delivery. I agree, cigar lighter connectors are best avoided. https://www.ebay.com/itm/272828633524 Spent this afternoon soldering tails onto a couple of these, coincidentally. The plastic used in the dielectric is not thermoplastic, which removes another lurking doubt I had about about them. I've had more than a few cheapie items - switches, mainly - which when exposed to the heat from the soldering iron, turn to putty with terminals collapsing sideways out of alignment. (Before you ask, I worked in the electronic industry so a soldering iron feels as natural in my hand as a screwdriver!). But with these, both the plug and socket spills tinned nicely and remained rock solid. The waterproof boot on the socket scrunched up perfectly around the cable exit and with a rubber O-ring included around the front of the insert, I'd reckon it will be pretty reliable for connecting outside. A couple of tips for newbies soldering plugs and sockets - always mate them before you apply any heat. That way, the pins are more likely to stay in alignment, even if the material they are set in melts slightly. Also, keep a pair of needle-nosed pliers nearby, and once you are sure the joint is nice and "wet", remove the tip of the iron and briefly clamp your pliers to the metal of the pin to sink any heat away.

  36. It'd be a good opportunity to get the wiring in compliance with the ISO 10133 "Small craft — Electrical systems — Extra-low-voltage d.c. installations" requirements (RCD) which state : 10.8 No more than four conductors shall be secured to one terminal stud Your middle battery looks to have 5 conductors on the positive terminal.

  38. My Father had a copy of a similar map in 1960 and used it to plan a trip to the Thames in 1961 from the North West.. I cannot confirm edition Number etc . as if it still exists it will be with a set of B.W. Cruising guides in a long unseen corner of the attic. One of my best memories is coming through Hawkesbury in what I assume was the pit holidays and pairs tied both sides out of the stop lock . which seemed to a young boys eyes to go on for ever.
