  1. Depends how you define north & south. This portal (behind the church) is south of wherever the other portal was. However if one were travelling north to south along the Oxford Canal one would enter the tunnel by this portal. I blame Brindley for allowing the Oxford Canal to wiggle about so much.😀
  2. Like this, though the F type isn’t on the back of a PD2:
  3. BW put the bracket for the pivot on the bottom of the vertical rod on the outside of the angle on the bulkhead, not the inside as in the photo which put the crank roughly in line. Bear in mind the gearbox operating mechanism was interfacing with a Parsons F type, not a Blackstone box. When I get to the yard I'll take a photo. When I first bought Barrow it had an SR3 in it with a hydraulic box so on the end of all this heavy engineering was a teeny tiny arm to the operating lever on the LH150 and the speedwheel rod had a piece of string wrapped round it which pulled the speed control lever up - proper engineering.😀
  4. D'oh. That makes sense, even thought I haven't explicitly given ebay my postcode there's probably some location info been given out.
  5. Interesting postcode on this listing "Within 40 miles of CV47 8NS" as that's where I live. There are fifteen houses included in that postcode - it's Poplar Road in Napton which overlooks the bottom lock - and it ain't me. I'm pretty certain I can exclude my immediate neighbours and about half a dozen of the other people on the road who I know. That leaves about six houses in the frame if the postcode gives any indication of the scammer's location.
  6. Unless it's changed since I last looked they don't. What they must do is comply with the essential safety requirements (ESRs) of the ECD/RCD. However if they do not comply with relevant ISO standards they have to prove an alternative means of compliance with the ESRs and good luck with that. I know which route I would go down.
  7. Not just boats, e-bikes, e-cigarettes etc, having problems while charging. One of the new dual mode tram/trains for the south Wales valleys has been reported as suffering a “superficial thermal runaway” (which somehow reminds me of “unscheduled rapid disassembly”😁). Doubt it’s a dodgy knock-off charger in use. Entire fleet grounded pending investigation, fortunately they are only out on driver training at the moment.
  8. There was a delivery to Brinklow a couple of weeks ago so available again. Don’t ask me how much
  9. Is it possible to have less claim to being a historic working boat than Norway?
  10. It seems the scheme has progressed beyond the consultation stage. Notices have gone up at Brinklow about the acquisition of land for use as a construction compound, possibly for delivery & storage of piles. Notice mentions infrastructure of national importance so any objections can be walked over. Land can be CP'd if sale cannot be agreed. On the plus side there could be an opportunity for someone who happens to have an unconverted motor boat nearby for a pile delivery contract.😁 Anyone spotted similar notices elsewhere?
  11. Having just cycled past Boddington reservoir it is now full or as near as makes no odds. If they could now fix Little Bourton lock so it doesn't drain the pound above overnight, resulting in water from Boddington having to be run every day to keep the pound between Slat Mill & Little Bourton navigable it might just improve the situation next summer.
  12. Err, no it doesn't. The whole point of piezo ignition is that it uses a piezoelectric crystal which makes its own electricity.
  13. Had they caught the train between Stalybridge and Manchester Exchange (or Victoria later on) they would know exactly where the National Gas and Oil Engine Company was located.
  14. If only there were a reservoir capable of supplying the summit pound of the T&M which is under utilised at the moment due to the state of the feeders supplying the reservoir and supplying the canal from the reservoir. One might think that CRT would jump at the chance to to improve the water supply in the area by this means, including an offer of voluntary labour and equipment (WRG) to clear the feeders. One would be wrong.
