That explains something from yesterday, something about a hire boat being told the Avon was closed as there was a car in the water

Someone has attempted to drive a Peugeot into the water about 2 miles south of Stratford. It is caught on the bank in a place that would make any kind of rescue very difficult.

Its a Freelander - almost certainly an insurance job (or a suicide attempt). Quite what the owner will do with £150 I'm not sure, though.

I've heard of people buying Freelanders wearing a disguise (false beard and glasses) and giving an incorrect address on the documentation. They normally retain the disguise while driving them too.

OK so I now get your comment was in jest, but I still do not understand why the police need help in locating the owner, or at least the registered keeper, of any car.

But then there's the vin number.

 

It may be sloppy journalism or the owner is not contactable by usual methods (a boater with a remote address where they only pick up mail irregularly and they don't have a mobile phone?)

 

Could be a boaters vehicle left for an extended time and the police in fact can not trace the owner due to them being "off grid"

Well they can "trace" the owner but not actually contact them to mention that their Landy has had a swim
