Our October Week Away

Featured Posts

Day One

Burton Waters

We arrived at the boat, chucked the gear onboard, fired up the engine and turned it off again as the battery charging alarm was sounding.

Not a great start to the holiday.

All the obvious things checked the engine lid was shut and it was time to search the Internet for local places to fix the alternator.

Day Two

Burton Waters -Dinghy Ride - Kidnap

The first job of the day was getting the alternator off .

This was then taken to a local repair shop.

Back at the marina we decided to make the most of the good weather and head to the pub on the dinghy.

Where after a few beers we were kidnapped by the crew of Sole Mate and taken to Washingborough for the evening.

Day Three

Washingborough -Lincoln -Burton Waters

After a lazy morning on the pontoon at Washingborough it was back into Lincoln for a spot of lunch and a bit of shopping before heading back to the marina where we are now enjoying the afternoon sunshine.

We should hopefully have the alternator back tomorrow.

Hope your alternator works fine for you once you have it back and you can enjoy the rest of your free time.

I was around the area yesterday between about 12 and 3 but I wouldn't have spotted you without your boat.

Day Five

The alternator saga continues & The Lincolnshire Coast & Burton Waters

Still no working alternator. Won't be back until tomorrow now. Waiting for parts despite originally been told all was well.

So instead of sitting around moping we decided to head to the coast. First to Skegness which was well shut!

Then onto Gibraltar Point

Bad luck. Did you spot the canal in Horncastle?

Yes we found the canal but my phone ran out of battery by then!

They are still away from Sheffield!

I'm in Lincoln at the moment, and it's rather nice!

It is.

Would be nicer if we could get there by boat this week though :)

Epic voyage to Lincoln from Burton Waters in a week!

Day Seven

On the Trent

We had an early start this morning to catch the tide down to Gainsborough. Due to some questionable lock opening hours from CRT we have had to break the trip to West Stockwith at Gainsborough. We could have easily made it on the one tide but the lock doesn't open until this afternoon.

Great - no more depressing pictures of Skegness in October!

What difference does it make which month it is? Skegness is always depressing.

This is coming from someone who lives close to and works in Skegness and at this moment is time has a feed from 3 cctv cameras there running on a computer.

That's why we didn't spend long there :D

Just long enough to grab some fish and chips then off to Gibraltar Point.

I was once sent to work there for three weeks in January ... it's certainly depressing in January ... I think I was the only one in the hotel! (That was 1985 ... may be it's changed)
