NigelMoore
Just for fun – Gilly’s big birthday, and her daughters had her narrowboat created in marzipan for the cake. Her childhood nickname was Goofie, hence the helmsman. It may look a little Dali-esque, but the detailing and paint scheme are otherwise remarkably true to life. I should perhaps add that the breaking waves are the product of the artistic licence of the confectioner!

magpie patrick
Goofie is some helmsman - he's got that boat into that gap between the two numbers whilst looking backwards! That's spendid Nigel - Hope Gilly has a great day If the right people are reading this (and they probably are not) I'm 50 next year...

bargemast
What a beautiful piece of art, it would (almost) be a pitty to cut this masterpiece in slices. Happy birthday Gilly, Peter.

NigelMoore
Hope Gilly has a great day Thanks, she had a marvellous day; family and friends from all over [her daughter came over from Australia especially and organised everything], with some of the major waterways campaigners such as lady Dido Berkeley, Brentford stalwart Jim Lawes, and other boating ex-clients both young and old. Other old friends sent messages from California, Australia and Sweden. Her other daughter Yasemin’s birthday card –
magpie patrick
Splendid! Run out of greenies I'm afraid. Gilly's daughters clearly have a sense of fun!
NigelMoore
Looks lovely. Shouldn't the icing on the base cake be brown though? That thought occurred to me on first sight, but let's call it aspirational art; besides, the photos it was worked up from show almost turquoise water! Trick of the light no doubt. Just to show the level of faithfulness to the photos: the real-life Goofie at the helm, daughter Millie up front on the right – Almost the same viewpoint -

MtB
I especially like Goofy's stylish helmsmanship technique. He manages to look so totally relaxed and laid back as to be almost horizontal, yet fully alert and and in control. Wish I could do that
The Bearwood Boster
I had a marzipan /icing version of our boat on my retirement cake last year. It's now sat in my freezer!(not the cake-we ate that !
Peter X
I love the bankside vegetation; I jumped into something like that to moor up at Kintbury on Saturday evening.
NigelMoore
I wouldn't dream of blaming anyone who could do a job like that! Fair cop then; blame lies firmly on the boater. Under those circumstances we did the only thing open to us - we s.8’d Goofie’s boat, and removed it from the azure waterway. Then we parcelled out the waterway, banks and all, to private consumers.
