I think if we tried 8 passengers on our "floating patio", given how Sickle rolls, we would be pulling them out of the water!

Just tell everybody they must lay down in the hold... that will either stop the rolling, or the problem in the first place! ;)

It's all getting a bit embarrassing, as more and more family members and friends are threatening to turn up, some of them pretty elderly, and not at all agile.

It's one thing loading them in the hold of something very stable, but remembering a previous event with people clinging to the rail down the centre of Tycho, without the equivalent rail, I'm not sure we are brave enough to try it with Sickle.

I may have to "borrow" a mud hopper or work flat for passengers, on the way up, if BW have left a suitable one lying around!

Can you not lift some of the decking and put the less agile people in the hold? I seem to remember Sickle sometimes travelling on maintenace duties in the 1960's with all the decking removed.

Not picking up a car, are we ?

Not a car no; Ariel will be (fingers crossed) coming up to escort Linnet down to Braunston :)

It's fingers crossed as there's a slim chance my dad wont be home in time for Braunston, and due to this being Linnet's first Braunston, I am forbidden from taking her without dad. We have fights enough over the tiller as it is without me showing Linnet off on my own

WHOOPS!

Failed to find main Braunston thread with last post......

Now copying it here!

...............................................................................

We are now at Braunston, moored in close proximity to other forum members boats including Owl (Koukouvagia) and Victoria (Mike Askin).

We also passed Chertsey a lock up the flight......

EDIT:

To correct some of the multiple things I have managed to get wrong in just a short single posting....

Victotia?

Time for another coffee... :-)

I'm rather jealous, I love to bring Heart of Gold, but it would be a trip of at least a week either side to get to Braunston. Maybe it can be planned into a holiday next year (hmm, and the BCN challenge... A kind of 'home coming' for the bow...).

Have fun, we are going to play on the Avon (Bath) in stead. Bring on a bit more rain.

Seems I had a bit of a mare with my posting - I've now corrected some of the howlers.

I can confirm there is already a fairly generous selection of boats arrived here, in some cases already treble berthed, although it's not yet anything like as full up as saying that might imply.

What's more my internet is working fine - not always guaranteed at Braunston!

Oh golly, we'd better get ourselves up there tomorrow then.

There is an outside chance we'll make it there in Reginald...

Mike

Sadly we won't be making it to Braunston. A series of delays in getting the Gleniffer running then fixing the numerous water leaks from frost damage revealed then dealing with transmission failure has used up all the time I had set aside for getting the boat into anything like habitable condition for the trip... :(

Instead I'm keeping Reginald at Trevor's place for now and he is booked to signwrite him/her again just like before when he gets back from holiday! :)

Amazing amount of interest Reginald generates when out on the cut. Had a long chat with Mike and Jim from Empress at Norbury on Saturday evening, and I was very touched that Malcolmb Braine turned up for a look too. I'm still not quite sure why a converted Stewarts and Lloyds day boat commands so much fascination...

Saw 'Dory' looking immaculate going the other way as I limped back to Grubb Street cutting with no reverse to deal with the transmission problem. (All sorted now.)

I must say though, I am quite worried about which locks a 7' 2½" wide boat will fit through. I gather I need to speak to a certain Sue Corson, who knows everything about this... I have her phone number :-)

Alvecote is still a possibility though if I can resolve the holiday clash and the lock widths. But I'm not banking on it....

I think that will be Sue Cawson.

(OK, it sounds the same, I realise!.....)

Thats what I thought too, but not according to Jim who gave me her number...

Well let's hope that if "Jim" is right, she can get a refund off whoever did her sign-writing!
