bizzard
3G for my mobile broadband is ending later this year. I have a new unlocked 4G dongle. Will the sim card from the 3G dongle work in the 4G dongle for 4G interne, I doubt it will. I have a contract with (3) 20 gorilla bites for £10 per month, now £13 odd because of inflation. Thank yoo. GUMPY
Unless it's a very very very old SIM it should work in the 4g dongle thingy. Simple answer is try it and see.

I've been on the 3 website and mentioned my present contract but can't get any sense from em, all they want to do is flog me a more expensive plan. Yes I know but would a sim card like that work in 4g mobile broadband dongle already on a contract with 3, would it upset the contract. I've had my phone on Three 'for ever'. but recently started having problems getting a signal at home, if I walked a mile up to the main road I was OK but otherwise nothing. Somone would send me a message or call and it could be days until I actually received it. Spoke with Three and they told me that they had turned off our local mast that was servicing the 3g, but the next mast along was still providing both 3G and 4G - however it turned out that there is about a 10 mile diameter circle that this mast does not provide any signal coverage. Three then told me I needed a new supplier and they would charge me £180 to cancel my contract - as you can imagine some discussion took place about that. Spoke to vodaphone (99.9% UK coverage) and they said yes I'd be covered, ordered a new sim and on arrival plugged it in and no signal - if i went outside into the field I got a weak signal. The only way I could speak to them to try and do anything was by using SWMBOs phone (EE) as they kept sending me messages but they never arrived. In the end they said - no sorry we do not cover your area. So, ordered a new EE sim which I was hoping to avoid, as the idea being that when we are travelling (boat or Camper) having the choice of provider is often helpful in getting a decent signal. The joys of rural living ! I'm still using the 3g from (3), but being shutdown in September here, so 3 emailed me. I find emailing folk these days takes ages for them to reply, I think they all seem to comunicate by bloomin Facebook messenger, Whatsapp and the rest of em and rarely check their incoming emails. 7 minutes ago, Jen-in-Wellies said: If you can, go in to a 3 shop. That's true, I'll take some custard tarts there for their lunch which I did once before they helped a bit, thank you Jen

How old is the dongle? If it’s 2021 or later, it will be unlocked. Before then, it might be, you’d need to ask Three.

If its unlocked, you can use a newer/better/cheaper SIM in the new 4G unlocked dongle with no troubles, and you could cancel the Three contract and bin the old dongle. Just make sure you actually do cancel it. Here's a link for a 21GB for £3.18/month SIM deal https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/compare/sim_only_deals/ its the Lebara one. For some reason, the 20GB for £1.99 has disappeared now but I got it a few weeks ago and it comes and goes. The cheapest I've ever gotten mobile data for is -£5 (yes, they GAVE me £5 for having 3 months of data) by doing a Lebara friends referral then cancelling once the referral was paid to me. I believe there is one now which is -£7.50. (50% of £15/month for 3 months = £7.50 x 3 = £22.50. £30 referral bonus, resulting in £7.50 earned for doing it. Of course, you need a friend to help you out with this). Edited July 2 by Paul C
