I wonder if the people of Tyrley had a vision of the future performance of CRT when they put their comments on the side of the lock building-

If so, it's ambiguous: No to the EU, or No to leaving? I guess it could be interpreted either way and thus it should please everybody.

It long predates the merest glimmer of a stay or leave referendum.   I think it has been removed for a few years now, presumably because the ownership of the property changed.

I reckon the St George flag reinforces the NO to Europe

Maybe it was there to telling passing boaters whether the England footballists had won?

It was late 1990's, when, If I recall, Hecla was brought back to the Midlands from Whitchurch.

And there I was looking at her today

Can’t decide if there’s more than one property there, but there was a ‘residence’ for sale a year or so ago. We got stuck there at least a couple of years ago for a few weeks.

If it was indeed a late 1990s reference to the England men's football team not winning something, there are several possibilities:

Maybe having failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup. Or...

Euro 1996 semi final v Germany (penalties!)

World Cup 1998 last 16 v Argentina (penalties again)

Euro 2000 group stage, losing to both Portugal and Romania

Quite a catalogue of disappointment, often added to since.

At least two, I would say. I wonder why the right-hand one was built to resemble a signal box.
