  1. The article in the latest HNBC newsletter prompted me to contact his nephew just before Christmas who gave me the news. I miss his interesting contributions to the Forum, I wish I'd made contact with him....
  2. I'm sorry to have to report that Alan died last March.
  3. Claytons boat at Cropredy - Albert Beechey perhaps?
  4. Ross at the time was owned by the late Bill Brookes, together with the Erebus.
  5. The site of the junction at Longford is where boats used to wind before going stern first up to the loading shutes 1/2 mile further on towards Coventry. Tight for a full length boat, you probable couldn't do it now because of the moored boats.
  6. Beverley, Bordesley and Bedworth, on hire from BW - at least to begin with
  7. Any connection to Sammy Lawton, latterly boating in the SE division, who came from northern parts, married an Atkins IIRC?
  8. If you look at the DVD you will see scenes in the trailer filmed at the Gauging lock at Buckby which don't appear in the film.....
  9. Part two does exist, just needs publishing...……!
  10. Why were you "Bumping" down the canal - was it short of water?
  11. Looks like John Batten - the then owner- to me
  12. Weren't all the SUC gates from Ellesmere workshops.....
  13. Looks like George Wain with the "Rail", passing the old side bridge close to the "Jolly Colliers" which is now located close to the Coventry ring road. Longford power station in distance.
  14. This is both sides of the Coventry canal between Gipsy Lane bridge and the Griff arm. We'll be wondering what the attraction of the canals is when they are lined with developments and moored boats. https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/nuneaton-borough-plan-gipsy-lane-16633796?utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/outline-plans-1500-jobs-business-16676921
  15. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANTIQUE-Magic-Lantern-Slide-BRIDGE-AND-HOUSES-ON-CANAL-C1910-PHOTO/362707844961?hash=item5473127f61:g:HpgAAOSwtKRdOEQn is this Caisey Bridge? - what does the team think?!
  16. It most likely is the "Birmingham" , I think he had the Camborne 1955/6 time.
  17. This is another one of Bob Grantham. I knew him well, a great character, liked his darts, a champion player within the BTW social competitions! This is one of the pictures he gave me at the time. He appeared as A (Arthur) Grantham on the fleet lists, but was Bob to his friends. He worked for Barlows as well, swopping between the two in the 1950s/60s. Not sure if this is the "Birmingham", he had the "Camborne" at one time
  18. ISTR having somewhere a newspaper cutting from the 1930s with a FMC wideboat in Leamington - but until I can locate it......
  19. being pedantic, aren't they bricks rather than stones...…… - and as for Coronation Street "Cobbles"...……!
  20. Further to this, here he is again, when boating...... http://collections.canalrivertrust.org.uk/bw197.2.26.15
  21. Probably the "Pipit" . Afraid he's no longer with us.
