The Danes do public information films so much better, if this is anything to go by. Only peripherally canal related, but people do cycle (very fast!) along tow paths and a helmet is a good idea. It made me laugh. ?
"But it messes up my braids!"

Hi,
I've digitised The Grain Run from some old VHS tapes. I've had to replace some of the music for it to be able to be seen on YouTube, best viewed full screen:

Going down. There is a shaft drive to the rudder on Luciole laid across the after deck to the cogwheels visible here. It takes several turns of the wheel to get from one extreme to the other, so the fish indicator is useful.
I once had a hard day in the sun, descending a 20 lock flight on the upper Canal de Bourgogne. It was really hard work and we were nudging our way in all too often. Only at the end did I discover that someone had parked our wretched little motor scooter (used for return journeys by whoever was driving our bus) with its wheel against the rudder dtive shaft. So I'd been turning that as well.
NB Lock gates are made of metal here, lasting far longer than modern-day oak ever will. With a host ofUK waterways rrestored in the 1990s coming up for gate renewal. is it not time to move to steel instead?

I think sadly quite a few people fail to realise that an ex working boat...converted or not....handles very differently and requires a lot more thought and input to steer than your average clonecraft.

The bike was a 531 steel road bike. I had just negotiated a crossroads and I was probably doing 12 mph when I went through a puddle outside a farm entrance. The puddle disguised a very deep pothole that caused me to launch over the handlebars. The downtube and top tube both bent on impact although I didn't realise at the time and road the bike another 20 miles home. It was cheaper to buy another second hand frame than have the original repaired and repainted.

I think the A+ type was an EU rating and now, after Brexit we must use the UK one. My new TV had a bundle of sick on labels for different jurisdictions and it was (I think) it was A for the EU and possibly G or E for the UK.
Here you go: https://www.simplyelectricals.co.uk/blog/new-energy-ratings-for-the-uk-in-2021 explains the 2021 UK ratings

Hi Alan,
I think you have a differing experience of composting toilets.
I have used my Airhead for four seasons, travelling from Midlands to south.
I HAVE NEVER LEFT ANY DEPOSIT BY THE SIDE OF ANY CANAL.
Actually, once each year I put two bricks of compressed coconut fibre pus enough water to soften the bricks into a soft mulch.
All my liquid deposits are disposed each day, rather like having a quick pee in the hedge !
Solids are rotated into the mulch by an electric motor and swtch.
I am always amazed and mystified, that the volume in the bown always remains the same !!!!
Once each year I do empty the contents into a plastic bag and then into my garden plant trough.
I LOVE MY AIRHEAD.

Do you know any business which would voluntarily reduce the profits it made? The only answer as far as I can see is the houses need built by somebody/organisation/state which isn't driven by profit margins.
Currently there is no incentive for private business to build beyond a certain speed/amount as they have an eye on their bottom line.

You can't blame CRT for your failure to look after your possessions. As my old man would have said, "it's your own daft fault".

I’ve just removed our “Welcome to moor alongside” signs. I’m just not risking someone taking out my 4g antenna or satellite dish!
