It isn't a great conspiracy, favoured by the antisemites. There are a lot of people in this country with ties to Israel. The Israeli state works closely with them to act as a lobby. The state has (Insert Party Name Here) Friends of Israel groups as affiliates of most parties, which give free junkets to Israel for politicians. It is a mostly white, Western style state in the Middle East, so serves a useful role in stomping on any other country that is getting out of line and threatening the oil, or transport links. Israel used to be very good at projecting a benign image. Only democracy in the area, LGBT friendly, most moral army in the world. Only now, after three years of genocide has the image cracked. It used to be the pain of speaking our against Israel wasn't worth it and it was peripheral, so the great and good were fine with it. Destroyed career and marginalisation were the result, so why risk it? Everyone else in public life does the same, so it is normal. Now, not so much.
