But not quite as annoying as posters who quote entire 300+ word posts, complete with multiple high res pictures. More so when their only reply is a grunted, mono sylabic agreement.

Can you tell I'm on a wireless connection?

Irritating though it is if people "quote" pictures in a reply, it shouldn't have any effect on your actual connection, as any half way reasonable browser will download and cache the image just the one time, not use up further bandwidth doing so again.

I agree you still have to page through them, though!

Maybe the same amount of effort used to 'prove a point' could be put to a better use? Only a suggestion, after all I'm no expert and only a blonde woman at that!!!! ;)

Not sure how to give a Greenie but if I did this would be my first !!

Down at the bottom right hand side of any post there is a green box with a + sign in it - click that and you will have given a greenie. You only have a limited number to give on a daily basis though so choose how ou give them wisely

Is it really that important how or whether we quote a post? Some people have no food, shelter or clean water this morning. I've just been reading about feral kids living in sewers, who are scared to come out because the police shoot them. I'll bet those kids would be really upset because some people on CWDF aren't following correct posting protocol. Get a grip folks.

If every decision was based on a comparison to feral kids living in sewers - the world would be a completely different place - maybe better, maybe not, that's open to conjecture.

But the OP has just as valid an issue with his JSA as Warren Buffet may have with any of his daily decisions - though they are diametrically opposed in fiscal terms, their validity as an issue may be just as valid.

Similarly, CWDF is what it is because (amongst many other criteria) it has a posting protocol - it's one of the things that makes it what it it is, and work the way it works.

Fair point. Top posting is still low on my list of priorities though; in my world it is far more important to stop at a red light than how we (top or bottom)post on a thread.

It was suggested politely, and I think there is a rational behind the posting below the quote.

Fair comment. Your post and opinion is perfectly valid. I wasn't meaning to have a go at you or any other individual. I was just questioning the importance of the issue in the grand scheme of things. I accept that some people might be deeply offended by top posting (I don't do it for the record) but I think there are far more important issues in this world, and indeed on this forum. I too wish to suggest this in a polite and friendly manner, and if my post came across as impolite or any way offensive, I can assure you that nothing was further from my mind.

Edited for spelling, though it is still probably wrong...

No, it didn't come across as impolite. :)

I am genuinely pleased about that

' Top Posting' is not rife, but in the OP's case - I didn't think it helped the OP's cause. Wether it's a non-conformist practice, I don't know.

Knowing the system that the OP is having problems with (Jobcentre), it does seem that non-conforming led to the problem. Is it connected - I don't know.

It could be worse. A certain "member" on here carefully deletes the /quote and then types his response in between the square brackets.

[Really?]

O.K., I'll see if I can modify my typing so people are not confused.

Here we go:

Seems to me as if my predicament has mainly triggered a Left Vs Right debate (Phylis appearing to be on the Right, Catweasel to the Left.)It's funny because I used to be quite Centre Right and read the Daily Mail but have gradually swung way over to the Left.

You may or may not agree with me but here is how I see what is taking place:

First of all, those of you who work will notice your taxes and expenses are rising. The bill for unemployment and health care is a huge factor in this. Working people are angry and I think politicians know how to manipulate that anger. Bear in mind I have worked too, doing a regular 80 hour week but am now unfortunate enough to fit into the category of "welfare scrounger". Can't help it either. I sent up to 30 job applications recently, got one interview and am finding each position advertised is getting at least 50 applicants.

Yes, I know it would be easier if I left the area but I have care responsibilities locally.

People I talk to who have jobs often tell me if they were to find themselves redundant, they'd easily find work. I'd say, at the very least, be prepared to travel and also that it's easier if you're younger.

I quote another job seeker from a mechanics site:

"That might once have been the case but there really is fk all out there now - I know cos I've been looking for *anything*; it's 4.5 months since I last worked and I'm very highly qualified, very highly skilled with a professionally prepared CV. I've had not one single interview despite hundreds and hundreds of job applications, many for jobs on 20% of my former earnings.

The competition for jobs - any jobs - is now absolutely massive. My next door neighbour owns a company that makes time-keeping, clocking-in-out machines. He recently advertised in the local paper for a .net etc programmer on 20K. He told me he got over 400 applicants (from an ad in the local rag!)

The trouble is that nobody on the planet will take someone like me on for super-menial work; I simply won't fit in due to age and very obvious background (the way I look, the way I talk for example). People will naturally assume that you are going to fk off the very second something interesting comes along as well (which is true).

The other thing to remember is that you're a bit stuffed if you have to travel a long way - there's no point going to do a job that pays you say 30 quid a day (before deductions) when it costs you 10-15 to travel there (we don't all live in London with cheap transport you know)."
