alan_fincher
If you meant the boat of that name, I thought they had finally sold it, but this seems to say otherwise..... http://www.i2itelevision.com/narrowboat/doverBrochure72.pdf Offers on £110K, is a lot less than it started at, but I can't see it shifting at any 6 figure sum. ditchcrawler
Braunston off the arm near the entrance. It was there when we came through just after Christmas. Reading the add it has quite a high equipment spec so probably had a lot of money put into it.
Roger t' Bodger
Cos it was on the telly they thought that Dover was famous and could hike up the price. It looked quite good when I saw at Braunston last summer but I found the modern look inside (on the telly) wasn't to my taste. A curate's egg of a project really. Roger Yes all looks great on paper with the spec of the kit, but as soon as you see what it means in the flesh then not for me from the front of the engine room on. Absolutely. If it were mine again I would get rid of all that. Easy to say as it'll never happen at that sort of money Tim
dave moore
Hi all I last saw Dover at Braunston in June 07 when she had been sold to a new owner from i2i productions. As far as I know she's still there...is she for sale again? I had some involvement with the project towards the end as signwriter and decorator. I note the comments about the contemporary fit out forward of the engine room; as always the problem is to make appealing television for a non specialist audience without usetting the enthusiast! I know that Sam Green, the series producer was acutely aware of the problem and anxious not to upset the boaty section. Chers Dave

dave moore
Carl - Not unless he's had a sex change! Keep me posted about Ken Keay's book. If Laurence can sort you a digitised copy fine, otherwise I can probably help. Cheers Dave
buggsy
Hi, we saw Dover moored in Braunston Marina a couple of weeks ago. If i remember correctly earlier last year Dover was for sale less than 100K. We have also seen a family out cruising on Dover at Long Buckby probaly the first owners after the TV show. In my opinion i think the boat looks very nice but wether i would like the under cloths cabin is another matter but it doesn't matter as i have not got the money anyway!!!!! johnthebridge
An unconverted Big Woolwich motor is worth, what? Judging by recent prices, anywhere between 28 and 35 grand? How much value do you put on a completely "over the top", and to my mind, flash under cloth conversion, with no through access to the back cabin? You're not even getting a decent steel cabin for God's sake, and surely no-one's fooled by the high, out of the water "loaded boat" look? The boat's grossly over-priced. Even Hawkesbury looks cheap in comparison. This confection is symptomatic of the times we live in. NB Alnwick
I remember watching some of the work being done and seeing it being filmed, at the time I thought that they had probably got it slightly wrong - the sort of boater that wants a historical boat is unlikely to be into the interior styling of that front cabin. Proper Job
We shared a couple of locks with Dover going down the Union a couple of years ago. She had a film crew with her and and the original presenter. They where doing a follow up series to the original build series. I don't think it was ever aired? We had a look round her and, whilst it was very 'modern' (I think the IKEA analogy is spot on), it certainly wasn't my taste in internal fit out. I know she's 70' but there was a lot of wasted space (in my opinion). To many gizmo's as well for my liking. One thing I did notice was how hot it was inside (it was one of those rare sunny days). The glass and sheeting was acting like a green house! I suspect that its equally as cold in the winter.

It had it's moments, but not many. Lee I missed that one. It must have been on one of the obscure satelite channels? They asked us to hang around for one of the transits through a lock, "for continuity purposes". Stupidly, I agreed. It was nearly an hour wasted after they spend so long mucking about. It all probably ended up on the cutting room floor anyway
churchward
I saw Dover at Braunston like others the interior was not to my tastes but the boat looked great from the outside. The back cabin was nice too and I wouldn't mind it not being accessible from the main cabin. The bed space was one of the best bits of the main cabin as a result of backing onto the rear cabin bulkhead. I thought though it was on sale for a bit less than £100K, still, either way it won't be me buying it!

It is OK for public as opposed to keen boater entertainment but I would have been miffed if I had paid for it.
