  1. the thimbles are for the inside of a rope loop like you see on decorative bell ropes, where it attaches to the clanger.
  2. I am looking for a supplier of small brass thimbles for traditional rope work, I can find many in stainless and plastic but am unable to find brass ones Cheers Ian
  3. Liverpool Link is now fully operational, dangerous mountain of rubble has now been moved by the third party that put it there in the first place.
  4. Link now open, I went down to have a look myself . Spoke to a contractor who was supervising the removal of the rubble, he told me plans in the near future to demolish the concrete silo ( another prolonged stoppage ) and also to reglaze and smarten up the dockside façade of the tobacco warehouse , Ian
  5. Well would you know it, my darling wife who has shown some mild interest in the subject , has just told me she has ordered a Huawei E5372 plus antenna for me to be delivered tomorrow, So it's now up to me to make it work! So question is , is all I need now a sim card. Can you get a day by day card as we are not live aboard Sorry for all the questions Cheers Ian
  6. Thanks Old Goat, The info I really need is if I were to buy one of these,do I just buy a SIM card with a data allowance and then I am up and running or is it not that simplistic. Told you I am a Thicko Ian
  7. Being a real thicko, can some body please tell how this works, I have struggled in the past with dongles etc. apart from buying the unit what else would I need, cheers any info would be great Ian
  8. Hi, Looking at having a week next year with total group of 6 on one of the southern French canals, Big blank canvas , would be grateful for info ,Companies, websites, forums etc. must be self drive not a hotel boat, Cheers Ian
  9. Do they do any decent real ales? Cheers Ian
  10. Thinking of stopping there next week. What's the latest news on the Shroppie any decent beer and what's the food like. Cheers Ian
  11. Came over about 3 weeks ago and can definitely say its wide enough for 2 narrowboats to pass each other Ian
  12. We on the Liverpool Link actively encourage boaters to work the locks with us ,once we have taken the anti vandal devices off ,it's away you go , nobody is stopped from helping, Ian
  13. I have been a vollie up on the Liverpool Link for just over a year, We have polo shirts, fleeces etc. but no name tag or ID
  14. I have started looking at various systems. Ideally I would like a system that is easily removable as I would like to use it on the boat and also take it with me when I go to a caravan, Any info, thoughts, dealers and prices would be welcome Cheers Ian
  15. Don't be frightened , we don't bite or eat our children, You will have a great experience, enjoy our city Ian
  16. Liverpool Link is the one to do, Bookings are low at present due to the Dutton Breach only just being sorted, Speak to Wigan about dates ( as said before in dates Sun, Wed and Fri .) . Now bringing 10 boats through a day rather than 6 in previous years. C&RT meet you before Hancock's Bridge about 08-30 am on your transit day and take you through a great trip and book the full 12 days if you can so much to see and do ,super safe moorings in the city centre. Enjoy Ian
  17. So no Real Ale then, if the dray is only just delivering today. Ian
  18. I have tried to find the date which the T & M will be fully navigable on the C&RT site, I must be thick but am struggling.we are due to come round from Nantwich to Wigan for Dry Dock third week of April will I be OK? Cheers Ian
  19. I am also interested in the situation, I have therefore bumped the thread Ian
  20. The beer must have been bad if the skipper went on to drink Eurofizz !!
  21. Good news about the Davenport, The comments about the Barbridge ,I would probably side with (Service and food ) but the beer for what is supposed to be a brewery tap is awfull ,last time there 2 beers were hazy and one was well past its best and should not have been on service
  22. Hi Dave, Thanks for the info and links, Think we passed your boat at Henhull on Sunday whilst heading back to our moorings Ian
  23. Just done a search on the stoppage page of the C&RT site. no sign of a Nantwich stop. I thought they were doing the flood gates this year before Christmas?
  24. The C&RT assistance as said is at present, the 2 swing bridges at Hancocks and Netherton, On the Stanley flight there is some talk of making this boat owner operated but there is a concern about some paddles and gates that are particularly hard to operate also the unique windlass on the top of No1 lock could be done away with as vandalism appears not to be the problem it was.The lock at Princes is to all intense and purpose boat operated, the final lock into Canning Dock is a different kettle of fish , C&RT liase with Peel Holdings(Dock Owners) who are responsible for the water management in the dock system via various rising caissons which are an obstruction to narrowboat passage to Salthouse Dock if not in the right position
  25. I am a volley on the Stanley flight and link, we had a Claymore hireboat down about 3 months ago they came down the link on Friday and left on the Saturday, They said that Claymore were very helpful and keen to promote the Liverpool Link as another destination from their hirebase Ian
