Proper Charlie
Car in the canal at Ervins Lock, not far from Kilby Bridge. CaRT saying it needs specialist attention after the weekend.

Proper Charlie
Latest update, in case anyone else is being held up by this. Apologies for the ongoing navigational closure, we are currently liaising with Leicestershire Police and waiting for an update from the company who will be lifting the vehicle. Trust Engineers and Operational staff will be on site Monday morning to see if anything can be done to improve the situation before contractors can safely remove the vehicle. Chris John
Anyone know how or why the vehicle ended up in the canal?
BEngo
Orcs, probably. Common in Milton Keynes. CaRT have a bunch of contractors who are there for.dragging cars out. However the fire brigade and the cops first need to check that there Is no trade for them or the Coroner. N

Stroudwater1
It took around a week to remove the BMW from the Rochdale last year at Smithybridge. The canal was shut for that time. Hopefully it’s able to be moved out of the way or removed fast and allow navigation again but that wasn’t what happened last year for some reason perhaps the canal was narrow there or some insurance issue with the car ☹️

Also a ground survey will be required and if the ground isn’t suitable for lifting that’ll cause delays.

Tracy D'arth
When we have more electric cars on fire, dumping them into a canal will be a safe way of extinguishing them. The recommended way is to immerse the car in a skip full of water but where would you find one? It may become a common occurrence. They seem to be making a big deal out of the removal, a man with a land-rover with a jib on it could have it away in an hour.
rusty69
Already happens. Had to ditch my electric car in the canal last week. The passenger asked which canal I was headed for. "Far canal" I replied,we're on fire. Went back later to get the car. Turns out it was the Ashby. Edited August 22, 2022 by rusty69 1

Perhaps that is the real reason for Tesla providing a (temporary) swimming pool in a container for their customers at one of their charging points in Germany!
