The expected rain has arrived far earlier than forecast and could be over the catchment areas for many hours.

It will be heavy to torrential and could result in local flash flooding, and the rivers going into strong stream. Be

Be aware.

Yes, it was supposed to start at 2 a.m. yesterday but in fact it was already raining by ten o'clock on Wednesday evening. It did stop from time to time, but today's forecast looks distinctly soggy, with heavy rain giving way to light rain and then becoming heavy again, throughout the day and evening. It's going to be unseasonably cool too, with a maximum temperature of only 58 degrees.

"Flaming June", they call it.

Newby to the Gt Ouse. We are currently at Cambridge but need to get to Huntingdon on Tuesday is the tidal section near Earith prone to flooding and get closed?

If it gets too high, the air draft under the road bridge over Hermitage Lock can be a problem. Of course being (very slighly) tidal can help, if you can wait for a lower state of the tide. Since the lock is not boater operated, that only works if a locky is available at the correct time.

In general though, if the level is high enough to close Hermitage due to upstream flows, you probably don't want to proceed upstream anyway. The Old West below Hermitage is a controlled drainage channel and a perfectly safe and pleasant place to wait.

Where we are, and have been for two nights now, possibly a third tonight, (fair weather sailors) it is raining quite pissistantly. Bring back the dry weather please, even though it was sweatingly hot.

A few hot days followed by a good drink is good for people, but even better for gardens. As we have a quite extensive garden, this weather has saved a lot of watering and will benefit our plants - though it's a fair bet that flowers, fruit and vegetables will be outgrown by the weeds.

I’m sure you can and will. Have you managed to visit Trojan? We will pass in the next few days and report accordingly.

Thanks.

Yes, had three nights aboard over the Late Spring Bank Holiday. We went as far as Anorexics' Bridge, turned there and actually had one night away from our home mooring. Went down by car for a drink with the piggies.

The flowers will probably have all the petals knocked off by te rain.

Nene just gone onto strong stream advice.

Just as well we haven't left yet,  wimped out because of the rain. Slightly messed up our holiday plans.? Because of other commitments during our time away.

One can estimate the headroom at Hermitage Lock, Earith (which like several locks in this part of the world, has a bridge over the lock!) by subtracting this number from 4.1m. So currently about 1.8m.
