Popular Post Parahandy
https://www.draytogoparsonrussells.com As some of you may remember I have always been a Terrier Man having owned them since childhood , in fact in over 40 years spent afloat I have never been without one mostly of the Jack Russell variety . Anyway my current dog Buster a Parsons Terrier I have had since birth is now reaching 10 years old and I have been contemplating getting him some company . Taking a look at the websites such as Pets4Homes and even Gumtree the first thing that struck me is the inflated prices being asked for any manner of rubbish , it seems that the breeding of dogs and the tax free money subsequently earned has become a popular substitute for a shift of work amongst certain sections of society The conditions some of these Pups are being raised in is certainly a cause for concern , pictures of gardens that havent seen a Lawnmower in decades , houses with no curtains nor floor covering indicate to me the wrong environment in which to hand over £2,000 to buy a dog . With this in mind I got in contact with the above Breeder and I have to tell you what a pleasure that has been , knowledgeable and principled the lady told me that she doesnt allocate dogs on a list basis , she allocates them on a suitability of owner basis which when you think about it is the way it should be . She was also telling me that only 300 Parson Terriers were registered with the Kennel Club last year and number have been falling year on year as People buy Cockapoos , Labradoodles and other mongrel breeds . In fact the traditional English Breeds are apparently being largely forsaken . After going through the vetting Process which simply involved me telling her a little about my situation I got the good news I have been accepted for a Pup in late Summer/early Autumn . The cost is £1600 and I am looking forward to a new addition to the crew . Edited March 14, 2021 by Parahandy
Pie Eater
It is great to know that there are some very reputable breeders around if you know where to look. I suspect that the demand for dogs due to people being at home during lockdown has a lot to do with the price increases. I hope that everything goes well and that the dogs get on.
Ray T
Good for you. Any excuse for dog pictures. This was Millie our JRT, she just adored the boating life. Edited March 14, 2021 by Ray T

Surely, just as no one builds "flats" any more, they're all "apartments", so no one ever has a "mongrel", they have a "cross".

Guest
Our JRT cost us £200 7 years ago. I have seen them going for 10 times that during the pandemic. I would be considering a rescue, if you can find one, demand for them has apparently rocketed too. edit - ah just seen you are sorted. Dead right I am, not long to wait though each day is a long one. The pram hood requires rather more patience, about six weeks to go until measure up, then about the same to make and fit. Here's our bored Mutt waiting to board.

Lovely dogs, but ........ I was told that insurance is cheaper for cross-breeds and mongrels than for recognised breeds. That fits our Athena then! Mum got out at the wrong time and had encounters with two local male dogs. The resulting litter of puppies had two different sets of characteristics!
Ianws
We brought home a beautiful 13 year old whippet from the dogs trust last year. Before that we had a rescue Jack. She was lovely, completely mad and cost us £50. That was the cost for the person boarding her while we were away. I was told by a multi dog owning friend that they would never pay £50 for a Jack Russell (even though they had more than one). Our Jack might have been pretty mad but was loving, loyal and wonderful. Best £50 we ever spent. She did have her moments though, but that's a Jack. If you've had one you will probably understand.
