Hi we had a few problems with our hardy stove recently and although resolved thanks to this place we was thinking about getting another stove for our boat and am looking for something as modern as possible as we will be changing the decor next year

Does anyone have any recommendations on any stoves for a 50ft widebeam.

Saw this one below does anyone have any thoughts on this one

Not big enough for a 50ft wide beam.

On my 50 foot wide beam I had a very un modern masport fatso. Bloody fantastic stove no longer made but occasionally come up on fleabay.

That's interesting I thought too small as well not enough heat

My stove was 15kw that modern one is only 5 which is fine for narrow beam. Imo you need at least 8kw output.

That's interesting not sure why they say up to 5kw everywhere when it is not enough on wider boats did you have a 5 inch twin wall flue or another type ?  Really need to find a good stove installer for boats.

We had a Charnwood country 4 on the barge with the multfuel option

https://www.charnwood.com/all-stoves/room-heating-stoves/country/country-4/

Excellent stove and was enough for the barge when it was 50ft.

Also fitted one in the cottage.

We had a Charnwood Country 6 again with the multifuel option as well in the cottage

That was a bit excessive it could have been two Country 4's ;)

I have to say that Charnwood are without doubt the best stoves I have ever had over the last 45years of using many different makes.

I have one of the original chilli penguin stoves (the Hungry Penguin) https://chillipenguin.co.uk/chilli_products/hungry-penguin/ at 5kw its more than enough heat for 58' and the oven is of course tremendously useful.

Expensive I agree but 10 years later and its still as good as new.

I was looking at that one earlier it's a lovely stove do you have a twin wall with it ?

Single skin internally and twin wall external which lasts a bit longer is all. Built incredibly well and each wall of the stove is 10mm thick. However, as Alan says you probably need something a little bigger for a 'fatty'  perhaps the Chubby 88  https://chillipenguin.co.uk/chilli_products/eighty-ate-88/

Yes that's a good point thanks for mentioning that bit worried as will have to make sure the stove flue is in the same place as the existing for the hole through the roof and we currently have a tiny stove so will need to work that out

That is super. With the oven, it's virtually a mini-range.

It really is, and pea and ham soup is cooking on the top today, with crusty bread baking in the oven section.

I can recommend Charnwood stoves. UK made (on the Isle of White). Extremely well made and incredibly easy to control via. a single vent control.

We have the C5 at home but they come in different outputs. You can have the flue exit from the top or the rear.

We have the C4 on the boat and its ok but not brilliant. Its quite small so will only just stay in over night. Biggest problem is the glass is always black. I do wonder if the older Country 4 is the better stove as it has a separate airwash control. However it is a very well made stove and all spares are easily available.

On the boat and in the cottage the Country 4 stayed in easily for 12-16hrs  on Phurnicite.

Country 6 the same.

Even my tiny Hobbit stove stays in for the same time if I bank it up.

We would struggle to get much more than about 8 hours from the C4. I have assumed that the Country 4 and C4 are similar except for the air intake control.

The grate front is not very high which limits how much coal we can safely put in.

I think the Country can take a back boiler but none is available for the C4, maybe that is saying something?

The C4 has an optional raised base/log store which I really wanted. I had a plan to get a Country 4 and make a base but time was tight so we got the C4. I now have access to metalworking/welding facilities so modifying a Country 4 could be another project for an ever growing list of projects.?.

Does the Country 4 keep its window clean when burning coal on "tickover" ?

Better than most but not as good as the Country 6

The C4 looks to be a very different beast to the Country 4, having looked at the exploded diagrams the fuel retainer looks bigger on the Country.

I wouldn't have a back boiler on a stove, tried it once with a Morso, didnt like it.
