New boat - Essential Equipment

I saw a reader classified ad for a narrowboat in Towpath Talk. It’s equipment included a “clarifier”. I thought this would be very helpful and save a lot of basic questions. Every boat should have one.

You may joke, but a clarifier is part of a sewage settlement system - I suppose it could be combined with a composting toilet.

 

The big versions of a clarifier at sewage works are often known as settlement tanks. (It is surprising what you learn at college during an HNC in electrical engineering and a visit to the local sewage works)

Maybe it was a typo  - should have been a cauliflower , which is more likely to fit on a boat .

I was joking and thought it would be a calorifier. However, We do have a composting toilet and could think about fitting a clarifier as Alan mentioned, perhaps a dedicated butty for that purpose would be good.

You wouldn't need one for a composting toilet surly?

Don't put a cauliflower in a composing toilet, it will hum.

It would save having to pee in one container, then move along and poop in a different one - just do as is 'normal' but allow the clarifier to do the separation for you.

"Essential Equipment" is a good name for a new boat. According to CanalPlan there won't be another. You should definitely buy it.

There is no doubt the bank balance would be considerably higher with no boat. But there would be no enjoyment  in that.
