Make sure plastic is warm (leave inside, near ISH the wood burner or lean against a radiator to maximise flexibility). Fit to inside of porthole. Wrap with fabric of your choice - et voila! For extra thermal quality use the hoop as a template and cut a circle of that silver thermal stuff (pound shop windscreen ice cover stuff I had spare..) I used some mega-big wooden buttons to cover the untidy bit where all the material gathers together in the middle.. rather proud of them! Brilliant. Looks like a kiss!!!

At the moment they are restrained by some para-cord and eyelets, curtain wire is available, unlike 9mm chrome rod, which is desired as I have 9mm chrome end brackets 9mm Chrome Plated tube
Guest
The nicest 'bottom of curtain' securing I saw when looking at boats recently was large-ish tape loops on the back of the curtain threaded around the bottom bar. Invisible from the inside (no 'vest stuffed into pants' look) and not too fiddly/come to bits-ish either. I'm mostly gonna have blinds though at present. ?

Fabric and lining both 56" 1] I have cut the fabric to required height plus six inches 2] I have hemmed the lining 1/4 inch turnover and two inch hem 3] Tacked two outer sides, "inside out" so forming a " pocket", 4] stuck ..... NewCanalBoy
Apparently you don't die the buttons up - cos they end up with a bit of a 'baggy' look. They don't hang right. That's all I remember !

Joe Bourke
I assume you don't like the chromed brass gallery/fiddle rail brackets i gave you Mrs. ? There is an oak place up on Liddice Road in Goole. I think it's called English Hardwoods, maybe save yourself a trip?

The chrome rods are quite expensive and I will probably go with them, but I might do one window different , part of the pullman diner. whch will have some oak trim. I'm going to the open day to see other things, and my brother lives not ten mins from there, he is doing woodwork on my interior as my birthday present, so I need to encourage his enthusiasm! Ie just read your comment to the head sewist and she said what took the time was waiting for the right material to appear in a charity shop. To do four sets of curtains cost £3 for the material. Thrifty, us? Never!

LadyG
I bought the material [discounted to £3.99 /m], 'cos I guessed it would go with my Ebay curtains by Next, I did go charity shop route once, but they were returned a few years later after living in a cupboard.
