  1. Also to bring them a little more up to date you (used) to be able to get miniature circuit breakers to replace the wire fuses, they had a slightly different base but used the same one screw fixing & contacts, so were a straight swap.
  2. Original thread - http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=72638 Renewed on-line 5th Dec, licences arrived 6th January after being queried by me on the 19th Dec.
  3. Why not ? Just because you have not already been does not mean that you will not want to try it in the future & therefore be affected by it's proposals.
  4. Wow ! what a long period to reply (NOT) responses to be in by Friday 9th January 2015 ie TOMORROW !! Published today 8th Jan !!
  5. I think the examiner is confused, as far as I can see there is no requirement for the on board units potential load to be less than the capacity of the supply, (as when you connect to different supplies they may be different any way), all supply points should be protected at the potential load of the supplying socket. If you want to peruse yourself see - http://www.boatsafetyscheme.org/media/194782/2013ecp_private%20_boats_ed3_public_final.pdf section 3.
  6. Applied on-line 5th Dec, queried non arrival of "discs" the reply I got was, "I'm really sorry but it looks like there was a problem with the online renewals system when you paid. We have the payment showing on your account but it doesn't look like the discs have actually been posted yet. I have asked out boat licensing team to push this through manually for you so you should receive the discs very soon. In the meantime we can see from our systems that your boat is licensed so please ignore any further automatically generated reminder letters you are sent." So may get the paperwork eventually !
  7. Do you have a smartphone ? (No NOT off topic) if you have, download the "Batterymegastore" app, then tell them you have done so, & they will issue a 10% discount code, which makes them (any make of battery on their site) a very good price ! I got 4 T105's for £355.68.
  8. When PME was first introduced, it was designated Protective Multiple Earthing, as the then Neutral & earth conductors in the then common 5 wire overhead supplies were connected together every 6 or so poles & at every distribution pole or junction pole to prevent nuisance tripping of the the then common voltage operated Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers.
  9. If you are thinking about Plank Lane lift bridge, it used to be operated by a bridge keeper, but now is boater operated (with key) & fully automated.
  10. Wonder if the local "fun lovers" will untie it at night !! ??
  11. Have you got (or can borrow) an oil filter chain wrench ? If so it will probably remove the heating element ok. (Might need to "tap" it with a hammer to get it started, depending on how enthusiastic the origional fitter was !
  12. That depends on the marina, some charge for "set" lengths, (eg if you are on a 50' pontoon in a 30' boat you pay the 50' price, some are willing to charge by the foot, so check out the places you fancy & ask the question. That depends on where you would like to go ! if you want to "do" all of the system then a 57' ish boat is the recommended max, 60' if you want to do the L&L (though some have done it with a bit of faff with longer) It's a "how long is a piece of string question ! Depends again on your aims. Suggest you look at some other boats, & decide what you can live with ! Sorry to be so vague, but as there are so many variables it's is solely your choice, get dozens of boaters together & you will find just as many differences of opinion & boat layout ! Alf
  13. I think they are the "models" that were displayed at the site of the full sized ones when they were first proposed.
  14. Perhaps the following example will explain why some repairs to structures take so long to do. The culprit of the bridge strike was known at the time of the incident so not a case of waiting for funding. Look at the submissions that have to be given to the council in the various documents to be able to carry out the repair ! http://planning.cheshireeast.gov.uk/applicationdetails.aspx?pr=14/3453C&query=16e32acdae99477abb4fe921c6551f16&from=p Alf
  15. See - http://www.trojanbattery.com/pdf/datasheets/T105_Trojan_Data_Sheets.pdf I notice that the rated discharge is for the 20hr rate, the 100hr rate is 25Ahr more. I also read somewhere that these batteries need approx 16 "cycles" from new to reach full capacity, which would explain the initial performance.
  16. Looks as if the failed mount was done by REME ! ( Rough Engineering Made Easy !!)
  17. Or Lower Heyford, Boat yard may oblige & train station opposite boatyard.
  18. Take a look at - http://www.bristol.gov.uk/page/transport-and-streets/ports-and-harbours
  19. There was (is) a boat share fleet that had a similar name in which the first letter ( C ) was always silent !!
  20. I run our 240v fridge with a MSW inverter, the fridge runs fine. You can get good 240v fridges for under £100 where as 12v fridges are considerably more expensive.
