I want to do more of these but the problem I have is finding logs big enough to carve. Not only do they need to be big, they need to be in a fairly prominent location (otherwise why bother?) they should preferably be of a hardy wood that will last (did one in willow, doubt it will survive more that a year or two) and they need to either be in the middle of nowhere or with enough space around that I can carve with a safe area for pedestrians to pass by whilst I’m working. That, unfortunately, is a lot of asks; especially as I need to get to it before a bunch of dodgy boaters turn up to cut for firewood 😁

Not really boating but:- Came across a news item (Google News) earlier of a slow motion video of a running internal combustion engine with a transparent cylinder. Based on a Honda 75 m/c engine It's available on ytube but providing a link is beyond this luddite. It runs for 18 minutes and goes on to show how it was made. Not watched the whole think but the slow motion part is fascinating

If you are planning the Harecastle/Stoke route, make sure you are aware of the very limited opening times in the Winter, and book well ahead.

On the other hand it might, if left, just seal itself up with come carbon! It probably won't though....

That looks like a leak round the injector body. If left it will get worse and may damage the head. The cure is to remove the injector, clean up the injector face and the bottom of the hole where the injector goes, and refit, renewing any sealing washers. Depending on the age of the engine it might be worth removing all the injectors and having them serviced whilst you are disturbing the pipework. N

Despite being an anagram for honest piss Shipstones was a wonderful, bitter beer. There were two pubs selling it in Doncaster, at 30p a pint, when I went to work there in the 1970s. Both used electric pumps (Invincible Metrons? A horizontal clear cylinder on the bar) which as a lad from Essex I wasn't used to. And Stone is a good place for good pubs. As well as the Borehole there is the Swan, the Royal Exchange and that new Joules place next to the canal. (There is also a McSpoons for the desperate)

You saw a few inland boats with wind turbines in the '90's and '00's, but very few now. Since then, the cost of solar PV has plummeted, so most boaters use that.
