More paint, and a glow plug to vaporise paraffin when the vaporisers are cold

Just need to fit it to an engine to try it now, hopefully the F2 will be back together in the next couple of weeks.

Flywheel removal- unscrew the flywheel nut until it's flush with the end of the crank and hit it end on with a sledge hammer, one blow should do it.

For those unfamiliar with  Kelvin Fs, the flywheel is on a taper with woodruff key, different from  the bolted on Js and Ks. Good work Tom and I'm envious of the new gearbox parts.

Here are a few more photos of recent progress, more paint and the crank is back in and a new oil drip bar fitted as the old one was damaged. I hope to have cylinders fitted soon

To position the engine in the correct position on the existing engine beds, I have had new engine mountings cut  ready to be bolted to the crankcase IMG_1539.JPG.75c6971be7c4b85394897fd03c875f7a.JPG

hopefully more to follow on return from Panto land

Now that the panto season is over, I've had chance to continue with the rebuild, this engine is slightly different to the other F4s out there in that it has the optional governor fitted to it.IMG_1611.JPG.7bea59eba63cb2722963db86f46665ca.JPGIMG_1612.JPG.27839768fbecc29a91f7d6c64ad97233.JPGIMG_1613.JPG.1a52e1f5144c2b82bc0d89cacfd5808c.JPGIMG_1623.JPG.f4dee171d4613952e2fe621be86e3e6e.JPG

The propeller and shaft are now fitted too, hopefully it won't be too long before the engine is in now

Looks brilliant, I thought I was the "patron saint of lost causes" in the words of my pal!

One question: where on the canal network do you think you will be able to buy paraffin in "engine size quantities", not just in 5 litre containers? The canals are very much set up for diesel boats!

We had a similar consideration with a coal fired steam boat - 20kg sacks don't go far and are an expensive way of buying coal in large quantities!

I'm planning on fitting a very large tank, and having a tanker delivery every year, kerosene is a good fuel or the mix of diesel and petrol from people misfueling their cars!

Sounds like a good plan, and if you have a route to the "misfuel" stuff that would be great - and probably cheap!

I have a "recipie" to make up fake Tractor Vapourising Oil if you want it, petrol/paraffin tractors seem to prefer it to straight paraffin, as they don't usually work hard enough nowadays to get hot enough to run well on paraffin

Hope to have it running before then, how about a tug of war in may?

Is that a metal clad glove you  just chucked on the floor in front of  Kerosene Castle?:P Might still have 3 or 4  working pots by then. I found another  'E' bit for you in the latest tidy up.
