We used to moor South of Fenny but North of Cropredy at a Farm mooring. Quite location. Minimal facilities but we roughed it for seven/eight years. We liked it there.

Called at Fenny Compton marina often. Seems okay. A small marina is better in my opinion.

Edit to add, congrats on the boat purchase.

Now that our boat is 4 years old and has a few marks, cruising is less stressful!

Tee hee. Xx

Bought her, now the fun starts, thank you all for helping me make it happen :)

Congratulations! What was the decision on the mark on the side?

Thanks for all the congrats and encouragement, my plan is to bring her from Crick to Aldermaston (Frouds Bridge), I haven't looked at a map yet to see how many locks there or how long it will take...but I don't think I care much, as the saying goes "suck it and see" .

Complicated, I will be working as a carer in Southampton at weekends so will be on board from Monday till Friday, my client has kindly let me have his address as a land based residence

so I'm not really sure if that counts as a liveaboard....I do plan to be a cc'er in a couple of years time, sooner if circumstances allow.

Ah well, spoke to a chap at Frouds Bridge about a possible mooring, his first question was "are you going to live aboard" to which I replied "on and off", so no mooring for me there then. Hand over on Tuesday, Tara will be officially mine :) I then have to plan to bring her as close to Southampton as possible, Newbury looks promising. I really have know idea how long it will take but that's part of the adventure. When I do decide (within two weeks from the hand over) do you think I should hire a skipper to show me the ropes?

There's a number of people on here that move boats professionally.

You could hire them and help them,it 'might' then be reflected in the costs.

We moored at Newbury for three years. It's all changed there since, with the three mooring locations being owned by,I think, three different owners. Look online.

About an hour from Waterlooville, where we lived at that time. You say you will work in Southampton,so maybe a few minutes less.

Edit to add.

There is The Newbury Boat Company &

Newbury Marina that has two locations.

I had wondered weather you struck a deal with them as I know they were very clear it was strictly no residential mooring there when we looked at a couple of boats for sale there. We are in Reading and absolutely love It. There some canalside moorings in Aldermaston available a couple months ago v. Reasonable price too. I can pm you the gentleman's details if you like? Also in Sonning there was a riversise mooring to let too.

Well, it's up to you, but in the nine months I have owned my boat I have shown half a dozen people how to drive it and I always say the same thing to anybody taking the controls for the first time- "It's got some weight and momentum and you have to allow for that, but it's about as difficult to drive as a fairground dodgem car". I wouldn't hire somebody to show me how to drive one of those. smile.png

ref moving her if you haven't much experience with boats get someone along with you who knows the ropes..I did and it was non stop teaching session all the way on wot was wot with regards inverter, battery bank, oil thingy, stern greaser, best way moor etc etc. Now I ask on here or phone guy who fitted her out. He's talked me through changing big fuses and all sorts. I put my first scrape on maiden voyage..now she's acquired quite a few. You've also got Braunston Tunnel which can be bit challenging..well I find it very challenging..but then Im a wuss! Anyway congrats, I think she's lovely..enjoy..
