Frosted windows in bathroom

I need to add some sort of adhesive material for the bathroom window to 'frost' it. Its a sealed unit so I don't want to replace the glass. I want as much light transmission as possible but it needs to be blocked so people can't see in in the evening with interior lights on.

 

has anyone got any recommendations or suggestions please

I know you can get sheets of adhesive plastic 'frosted' specifically for this purpose. B&Q might do it, or a quick google is bound to bring up a supplier.

 

ETA: Goolgle "obscured glass film" - it brings up loads.

I think its called fablon its a sticky backed plastic I have done my bedroom portholes and dressing room window with it so can have light in but privacy too.

Did mine with some stuff from ebay... fairly easy to apply.

 

Search for "security film" or "frosted window" or "privacy vinyl" loads on there...

Think the only slight disadvantage with the stick on stuff is the surface you stick it to has to cleaned to an inch of its life. Wouldn't bother some but with my OCD the slightest mark under the stuff would drive me mad.

Your not wrong, mobile phone screen covers come to mind.

 

That said, they foiled some huge windows in our office after installing them, and while I wouldn't be happy with it as there is a join in the middle, they have got very few inclusions in it.

Got mine from a local hardware shop. Clean the glass very well and spray with soapy water before applying the film. squeegee out from the center with something like a credit card.

I did some on a house window..it was a roll of stuff you peel the back off. Then you spray water onto the glass...roll it on, smooth out the bubbles....

 

Another boater bought some silver mirror stuff that applies in the same way.....but I think that cuts down on some light.

 

HOWEVER, the blurry stuff will not completely make a naked body disappear......people will still be able to make out skin tone etc...

Caution with the silver mirror stuff -- it works fine during the day (more light outside than inside) but becomes transparent at night when viewed from outside (more light inside than outside)!

Agreed. Mirror film is especially crafty, though, because it looks opaque.

Curtains closed when in bath but keen to have daylight without people being able to view the bodily waste output rituals got a window above the bog.

Adhesive film will go some way, but curtains would be a good solution..

 

You could even get some valve grinding paste and lap the whole window to an even finish.

Could you not add a secondary double (or in your case treble) glazing panel using one of the heavily patterned acrylic sheets ?

Give the kids a box of colourd marker pens and point them at the window.

 

Instant stained glass window.....then spend the next few weeks keeping them away from the marker pens

And thanks for the other suggestions - I had been considering spoiling the glass with an abrasive but on balance I think John V's suggestion is probably the way to go.

The sticky backed frosted film stuff has worked fine for us., both on the boat and at home.

Comes plain frost, or patterned.

Can always double it if you want complete obscurity, but still have the light.
