Canals in the media

This morning I happened to see Keith Floyd on some random best of cookery programme, he was travelling and cooking on a pair of narrowboats, and their owner looked very familiar.

Then in the pub this evening one of the locals said there had been an section on canals in The Times over the weekend, he says he'll keep it for me. Tried, without any luck, to find it online.

I had a quick flick through the Times article when I was meant to be putting the papers together at work. It was a list of the '30 top canal locations.' I know these things are always a matter of opinion but this one seemed especially arbitrary, with a southern bias. I can't remember the details, but the ones near the top seemed to be flights I hadn't even heard of, and the Anderton and Falkirk lifts were both well down it. As Dyertribe says, sparse and uninspiring.

Did the waitress there give you her phone number too? What's your secret?

I was alluding to mind altering substances rather than getting a date.

A waitress in the Birmingham Harry Ramsdens asked me out after I finished off the "Harry's Challenge" though.

I have had quite a few girlfriends over the decades but I always thought this was quite normal and didn't require any special talents.

Perhaps I've been selling myself short all this time.

Oh Gawd, I wish they'd all shurrup, we are full!

Ahhh but actualy we are not full and far from it. There is loadsa space in the nicer areas of the system but congestion in the big slum it seems? I have never been able to work out how that works.

I think it is the same effect that makes X-Factor, I'm a Celebrity and Coronation Street so popular.
