I joined this site to gain knowledge and friendship from fellow n boaters, I'm no stranger to boating and I think I know my stuff, my initial question was to where to purchase a rudder bolt embellisher, a helpful sole sent me links to matalan etc for curtain pole ends,... I think he was serious, .........helpful, he added that he had one! Nice, but I am looking for one to give to my wife for a 21st wedding anneversary, not that it seems a lot on this site!!!!!

I then had a querie bout my eberspacher.............well I need not have bothered,

On this site I thought you would give advice or comment if you k we what you were on about,.........mmmlmmm

That the people who you are asking are all unpaid volunteers doing this out of the goodness of their heart as and when they can

Possibly all advice on here is free, you can't pay much lower than that. I know nothing about ebers except more people on here swear about them than of them and it seems fro one reply yours is an unusual one to have on a boat. Ref your curtain pole, I don't have a clue what you are after.

Hi Poco

I am sorry you have found the site less than helpful or unfriendly I have found the complete opposite to be true.

Sorry I can't help about the eberspacher never having even seen one.

I have to admit I don't know what a rudder bolt embellisher is I suspect it is what I would refer to as a tiller pin. If it is I gave Google a quick visit and the fourth item in the search was

http://www.miracleleisureproducts.co.uk/tiller-pins/cat_7.html

and the sixth was

http://www.dracocrafts.com/tillerpins.html

I assume that as they appear so easily on Google this is not what you are looking for.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

By the way I didn't read either of your earlier requests as I knew I hadn't a clue about them.

Hi POCO

I have found the opposite here but I am sorry you feel like that.

Re rudder bolt - is it a tiller pin you are after? If it is you can try www.blackcountrymetalworks.co.uk or www.miracleleisureproducts.co.uk/tiller-pins/cat_7.html or www.dracocrafts.com/tillerpins.html

Hope you have better luck with your other questions

Louise

Edit - Jerra beat me to it clapping.gifclapping.gif

I always thought they were curtain pole ends. Why do you want your boat to look like a sports coupe? Shame on you.

It's possible that they were bedknobs: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=58399

The Victorians had all sorts of brass decorative blobs that we no longer make

Bloody ell, I learn loads on here. I never thought of bedknobs to do that. Your clever richard. Being hollow as well, I could put a coloured led in it for night cruising.

It's a discussion forum where discussions take place.

Nobody is obliged to give advice but it just so happens that plenty here are willing to offer it.

If you are not satisfied with the service you have received a full refund is always offered (Your statutory rights are not affected).

This is about this:http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=59356&hl=

and this: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=59311&hl=

As far as I can see a few folks have tried to help.

Yes, but you have a curtain rod end on your rudder, so your opinion doesn't count

Those rosettes are nice:

Any idea what they meant for originally? Horse tack perhaps

Richard

Yes I believe they were on the horses. When motors came along many boat crews transferred them to their cabins and chimney chains.

If you have a copy of "A Canal People" look at pages 33, 44 & 45. There are others.

Richard, everything you could wish to know about horse brasses: http://www.nationalhorsebrasssociety.org.uk/Core/Horse-Brass/Pages/Default.aspx

This may rank along side the "Matalan" information I gave earlier to someone.

I haven't seen anything like those on tack for riding and driving horses, but it would depend possibly what era they hail from... My family has tack going back to at least the Second World War, including a side saddle that has a plate on it saying "God Bless the King!"

Perhaps dray and working horses had them?
