It's really heart warming to see tree being refitted. A big motivation will be when the boat is lined out and then all the nice things going in like kitchens, bathrooms etc.

You have done superb! If I lived closer and I wasn't on JSA I would of offered to help you.

I have been late in spotting this thread.

Well done in keeping at it and being determined to get your boat back to its former glory.

I admire your tenacity and spirit Tree. Well done.

I assume that she was maneuvered into the caisson, and then boat & caisson lifted / pumped out as one.

I guess you need deep water to do that, but its easier as you don't have all the window and door holes to sheet over.

:( ...... nope it took 2 days to raise her, as due to her being stuck and settled in the mud for so long, the first day the poor divers bless, had to dive down and clear space , so that they could get the lines underneath to attatch the' balloon thingies', adn the next day thankfully they managed to raise her and pump her out. The divers had to work in icy cold conditions and I will always be so grateful to them and all the team at River Canal Rescue who were so kind to me and so professional :)

Alan, its not a fear of being accepted, as that has never bothered me.... as i am a bit of a loner :) and i know that most boaters are woverly people anyway :), I am jsut a bit of an oddity lol.... because I am ok with people in any situation that has to do with my work or community/green issues.

I once was attending a conference regarding disability rights as an invited person, and was then out of the blue, asked if I could fill a 20 minute spot because one of the other people was unable to attend, I had no problem doing this, even without any notes ectera and it was in front of over 100 people, including our mayor and local councillors ( who over the years i have badgered and given a hard time lol ;) , and I spoke for 35 mins talking and answering questions from the hall...haha...( i can half talk :)

.Infact i am involved in another new campaign and have writen to my local MP here as well as other MP's and received a letter back today from No. 10 regarding my letter which will be forwarded on to the department of health. I was also invited to be on my Counties Citizen Panel back in Wales, and I am also active in other areas, so ime not really a' shrinking violet' sort of person in that way... only when it comes to 'socialising' outside my work comfort zone.

I just dont want folks to think that i am being a bit offish or funny , because ime not its just the way that i am and have always been .

Congratulations Tree, such beautiful pics, the love and admiration just oozes out wink.png))

Reading this thread and seeing those photo's brings a lump to my throat and a knot to my stomach.

Yeah, our galley is very simular indeed, the l-shape, stove location, age of fit out. Makes you think 'I guess thats what out boat would look like if it went down'.

Ahh ok, than then once floating under her own power, into the caisson for docking.

For the un-initiated. What was the cause of the sinking?

Great to see you back posting, having already seen the pics, I know how far you have come. Well done, hun. I know to well how much blood sweat and tears it takes to get your pride and joy back to where she was, but you are doing it. Big pat on the back and don't be too proud to take the help and advice offered from your many friends, it does not make you any less of a person. You will have truly deserved your break next week end, can't wait.icecream.gif

She wasnt put in a caisson, once the drivers and the RCR staff managed to get her raised and pumped out, by using big 'ballon' thingies she was left at the mooring and I had to return back home to Wales. The engine as far as I am aware was not started. I took time off to come back in the spring and arranged for her to be towed with the lovely and very helpful Clive, to his marina ( Willy Watts marina ) where I blacked the hull smile.png Regarding the cause of her sinking I dont think that it would have happened if it was not for the horrendous floods and winds that occurred at that time, and I am unable at the moment to comment any further. All I can do is focus on today and tomorrow and getting her back to her beautiful self and move aboard and start gettign my life back on track. The caravan that i am living in is ok and comfy... but it aint 'home' smile.png edited ..regarding 'mildred my engine' she hasnt been started since i took her to billing last april, hence my concern that she may be lost :(

I so so miss being in Wales :( it has only been nearly 3 months.. but it feels forever ... its my spiritual home and i will always think of myself as being 'adopted' by Wales and its wonderful people. As much as i really like being here in middle albion at my beautiful mooring and such nice people...i know that once my boat is finished then my original( intended ) journey to the North Walian canals lol will continue :) as the draw to return is jsut too powerful for me to resist and its a place where i was extreemly happy :) plus all the rugby yippee and the wonderful language and accent... hearing a Welshman speak to you makes me knees go all wobbly blush.png and if i am attracted to them WELL!!!! hahahaha... moi is indeed 'putty in their hands ' (ok!! too much information tree hehehehhehe ...sowwryy blink.png

I think your boat Tree had a hood on the back so not much rain water should have got in during the floods and was probably held down or heeled over by too taught mooring ropes and or helped by a strong current and wind. However I would double check everything that could let water in like engine exhaust outlet and all water drain skin fittings ect that might be too close for comfort to the waterline. Weed box lid gasket and secured properly, prop shaft stern tube gland drip could be excessive. No doubt these things have been checked but I'd make double sure. Keep focusing Tree your doing a treemendous job.

Good luck with getting everything finished.

How's it going, Tree? We need an update smile.png

wotcha fellow chatternatterer :)

alas since moi moved aboard Novemberish... the river has had moi beat .. due to moving here there and everywhere :(

but never fear there is indeedy 'light at the end of the tunnel' ... the EA have re-started the repair works to the lock ( not sure moi told yer this bit when you came to pikeys boat)... once these works are finished, then moi can return back to moi mooring and carry on at full steam ahead. Even with moi working 2wks away and 2wks home .. ime an eager beaver to get cracking on again .. as she will be more beautiful than she was before ( she = moi boat ;)

Moi had the joy of meeting up with Captain Fizz of this parish and our Nigel C today, and they both gave moi excellent advice and some work was completed ..ta Nigel drinks on moi ;).. so with the help of Captain Fizz to do some welding works to enable easy access to the engine.. then the engine will be taken out and worked on by another good friend.

Hence will only be the fitting-out works to be completed and with moi boat only being lickle, and most of the white goods aboard then , hopefully it wont take long... as moi yearns to take her out for a cruise.. its been far too long since moi was bimbling along our beautiful waterways :)

Hope all going well your end Ben ... soon .you will be oft along the 'cut' moi friend ..soon :)

Great to meet you yesterday Tree.

As soon as you get back on your mooring, I will get down and cut out that engine access. Then we can whip out the engine and have a serious clean up of the engine space.

If EA are delayed, let me know and we will lift the engine anyway so that you can crack on.

:) Many thanks and it was woverly to meet you as well.. moi still cannot think of 'circus performers' without bursting out laughing.

The EA chaps are really working hard and despite the windy weather today, managed to get quite a few of the blocks in, to barricade the lock, so hopefully when next back off work, it will be nearly finished. Hope your good lady enjoyed the wine :)

I think its lovely how everyone pulls together in crises on the canal world. In civvy street I have felt so alone, when I had my career torn away fro me my "friends" at work dropped me, it's been a tough few years and stories such as this re-establi9sh my faith in people. I have been into hell and back and now life beckons. Tree you have done so well, I admire youclapping.gifclapping.gifclapping.gif
