All the hassle and problems in Britain at the moment make this seem a stupid and pointless leftover of colonial days, you can't be in our gang if you don't fly the secret sign.

As Dyad said, centralise the red strip and then get ready to remove the Scottish element

Woss the difference between a principality and a country then?

MtB

The difference is you get told by another country that you have a prince whose motto below the treble feathers is Ich Dien (I serve, in German!)

Join the RYA and get to fly their nice ensign (actually a house flag) - hang on in there for a few years and for no extra money you get a nice gold one :)

(I still wonder if I have the cojones to fly my RORC house flag on my NB?? Not having starboard spreaders makes it all a bit difficult though, so maybe I won't bother)

In a number of those pictures I can't tell which end of the flag the pole would be so can't tell if they are upside down or not.

Where a flag is displayed without a pole, it should be displayed as if the pole was on the observer's left.

As Dyad said, centralise the red strip and then get ready to remove the Scottish element

You do realise that there is a REASON for the off-centre red strips?

You live and learn. Apparently our boats, being on the Historic Vessels Register are entitled to fly a specially designed defaced red ensign.

Unless they are in the core 'National Historic Fleet' (the most historically important vessels) that's the wrong ensign, it should be the one without a crown.

Have you looked at the price of those ensigns? ohmy.png

Never mind the price that just wouldn't suit Halsall.

A more sea going or estuary boat would be fine to fly the appropriate flag.

What's the advantage of being in the Historic fleet, do you get money off stuff? Is it worth the bother.

at barby moorings they all had white flags for a while.....

There are a number of boats on the Shroppie flying the Union Flag, the White ensign and the St Georges Cross. That's what I call covering your options! ( and none of them actually appropriate). frusty.gif

It is a criminal offence to fly he Union Flag on any boat (except, I believe, unless the Monarch is on board), and certainly it mustn't appear in any form, even bunting, on a canal boat. The correct flag, if you want to fly a national flag, is the red ensign.

There were quite a few boats in the Jubilee Pageant flying union jack bunting, despite fairly clear instructions beforehand not to do so - I don't suppose Her Maj got desperately upset by seeing it.
