C&RT 250th anniversary celebration -  at which met with @ElaineMary and RichardParry (CE C&RT) who remembered us from earlier meetings before the Accursed Virus. First question for RP was "as a Navigation Authority, what has wellbeing ever done for us?". There was a straightbatted response about how it attracts support from those who wouldn't otherwise know about the C&RT and the benefits of the canals. We went on to talk about the Government response to the 10-year checkpoint review of waterways funding, the comparison of the current crisis to 2006 (in BW days), and the use of C&RT property portfolio to plug the gap and maintain a sensible standard of maintenance. At a practical level we told him about the lack of grease on the B+F paddles....

Hey, that’s the boat made famous by the legendary lothario Colin, his somewhat vociferous wife / lady friend, and a poor child perched on the bow wishing she were somewhere else.

Perhaps the boat was named after the lady’s tongue.

Film photography was always hit and miss.

The weight of the returned package was usually a good indicator of your success or otherwise.

The older images are fascinating, regardless of quality.

It ain’t broke as far as I can see, so it doesn’t need fixing.

Incidentally almost all of the first page of the thread revolved around a picture of a catamaran in Croatia taken a few years before the thread started and the OP replied to this positively . It was started a few days before lockdown so it’s no surprise it ended up with past years canal pictures and has carried on.

Theres one thing for sure, BoatinglifeupNorth isn’t supplying much of a tonic on this thread.

As the OP, I very much still enjoy all the contributions. The time stamping of photos over the years has added the dimension of how things change, and has increased the value and enjoyment to me, of this thread.

So thanks especially to Peter Scott, but also to Naughty Cal, I enjoy your photos of UK coastal escapades. So hopefully this thread remains as a valuable record of the ongoing recent history of Britain's inland, and coastal waterways.

14k replies and 640k views obviously means that I am not alone in pursuing this branch of voyeurism.

I confess that the rate of Peter's posts in this thread does put me off posting here. They are often quite interesting, but the sheer volume tends to smother anyone else's submissions. (That may be the first [and last?] time I've agreed with @BoatinglifeupNorth!)

A couple from last weekend's WRG do:

As you say you may not agree with what I write, but it’s fact that others have stopped posting on here for the reason you say, their photos are just swamped like these by @PeterScott mass daily photo postings. Is it really necessary or has it now just become a self ego me, me, me thing with him?

Since some are getting petty about what content is appropriate for this thread, I'd question whether that is "nice on the waterways"! 🙂

And they’ve all been posted on here before. A bit repetitive and highlights my opinion that it has just become a old Holiday snap Thread from previous years and nothing really to do with “What’s nice Today”

If you have nothing to add, no "holiday snaps" of your own, why bother continuing to A look at the topic and B continue to derail from the subject?

It was derailed many years ago. When I have a worthwhile photo I’ll put it on, maybe people should also have the same idea, I wouldn’t call the ones you posted above nice.
