  1. It might be 6 miles from Barnby dun to Sykehouse, but the reality is they came from Strawberry island and its another mile or so to New junction end. All the stops at the lift bridges etc adds to fuel used as you know. So maybe it cost 40-50 squids return? This is a lot more than a few months ago, they are the ones complaining maybe their boats are more thirsty than yours?
  2. Normally they would have been at new junction end for a BBQ but the fuel costs were putting them off.
  3. You do realise that big boats are already electric Tim?
  4. No in reality a car is more economical than a narrowboat, a gallon might get you 20 miles more or less. The mini Gin palace would with it twin engines do 5 litres in an hour. Boat wise I am not seeing it busy for a Sunday although this passed me yesterday, Waddies have sold another of their boats after first giving it a makeover
  5. Because the 3 boats raised the point with me, also it's a discussion forum so I have raised a point that 3 boaters are worried about
  6. Yesterday whilst we were moored at Barnby Dun, I chatted with 3 mini gin palace owners, they had all had a short hop out from their moorings. They were saying normally they would have gone further, but the price of diesel was restricting distances travelled. Of course they use more fuel than tin bath boaters but is the same happening with us?

  21. Here is a picture of the back of the boat I was following which sort of churns up the river. It frees up logs, trees and other debris, this is the back half
  22. You did read the part about debris all over the river and the lock being difficult to say the least? The lock keeper would have held him back until I arrived and it was 400 yards or so. He wasn't going anywhere a d my speed was fast enough given the debris
  23. So todays little run was 3.5 miles and 2 locks both manned by volunteers, these are 200 x 21 foot locks with big drops so its very helpful to have them manned, I did 3mph and it looks like just over 3.8kwhs to do the journey no genny again and drive solar is heating hot water for the shower. Only one annoyance as I was coming to Doncaster lock I had a Narrowboat trying to overtake on my right, there wasnt room as i was over as far as id safe and on my left was debris from when the tanker went through earlier. For some reason he kept on slowing down then charging at my stern! clearly in a great hurry to go nowhere as Doncaster lock was on a go slow which I already knew about 🤣
  24. So the ram was returned today by my Brother in law 200 squids for cash and its fitted bled up and working great, whilst the emergency tiller is ok for a big boat its awkward to use, the distance between tiller and controls is distant and also positioning the boat isnt as easy. when using the wheel you can see clearly down the left side of the boat, ok when mooring on the right its a little awkward but you get used to it, also the boat goes straight with the wheel you can put the kettle on etc tiller it heads straight for the bank!! Anyway tomorrow its on to Barnby Dun and Jayne is coming for the weekend so company for a few days
  25. 3mph fast enough, as I have 2 weeks to get where I am going, also on days like today you can meet a proper boat coming around the corner, one weighing 1000 tons!!
