  7. At this stage the plan is May 2027. Subject to affordability and no sudden aging. Hope also to spend two or three weeks back in the UK with time at a nephew's in Reading. All probably a last hurrah for inter hemisphere travelling.

  9. I enjoyed Magpie's contributions to this forum, especially about the history, of boats, waterways, boaters, canal side industries, and the restorations. It is obvious as well as documenting these things, he also was a very significant contributor to these things, and a very significant contributor to this forum. He has left a singnificant legacy. What more could you ask of him? Condolences to all his family. He will be missed here, and over where you are. Don and Val

  14. Always liked a browse through Midland Chandleries to see what they had, and so what to get or at least specify, in case something broke, or what could make things on the boat better. Big well laid stores so you could eyeball the alternatives, and the specials. But then I enjoyed browsing Maplins, Debenhams, British Home Stores et al.

The spinnaker is a modern, not a "leg of mutton" traditional so we don't use. Also avoids the adverse spinnaker clauses in our handicap and insurance. But we do use the jackyard topsail under 12knots. It is an interesting hoist using most of the large crew to accomplish. Just getting the gaff main up takes a minimum of six, three on each halyard.

Where abouts are you? We live about a mile from the course. Currently trying to commision some colour changing led flood light bulbs to illuminate part of our garden. Work well, apart from where I want them. Too far away from the internet router, so now have a new mesh router to install. The bulbs were relitively inexpensive but adding in the mesh router, no longer so! Through the Classic Yacht club, I have scored a ticket at the Meet the Sail GP crews at a yacht club this Friday Night.

  22. And the ship in front. The one for self loading cargo, is a similar box, but a box with windows.

  24. Ah, the competitive, I've been round longer then you, race. Next it will be competitive grumpiness. Good spectator sport. but count me out entering on both, even though I probably meet the entry qualifications.
  25. And for an Australian version. Sally was priced out of Noosa’s housing market. Now a houseboat owner, she’s about to be forced off the water https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/jan/30/houseboat-owners-queensland-anchoring-limit-sunshine-coast-noosa?CMP=share_btn_url The dental nurse says a new 28-day anchoring limit is designed to get rid of houseboats and clear the view for residents of multimillion-dollar mansions I must admit wintering over in Noosa would be far preferable then in wintering over in Dukinfield.
