Yes it does on my android also but XLD said the wifi was on which made me think that if wifi on the phone is on it might be blocking the hotspot from operating. Samsung - Android

On the phone wifi probably needs to be turned off (it does on my android phone) to allow the phone to act as a hotspot

Is the iPad capable of connecting to 2.5GHz & 5GHz networks? Possible if older it will only cope with 2.5GHz and if the WiFi is 5GHz then it won't have it
-
Yes Wifi "on" on mobile but iPad wifi "on" but "not connected"
-
Both bluetooths "on", reasonable 4G signal, hotspot on mobile "on" VPN connected. So why is my iPad not connecting🤔
-
Yes, but I paid less than half that, I don't understand why the price on their website suddenly went through the roof (geddit?) ... 😉 £470+VAT (£564 inc VAT) is *ludicrous*, a German website has it for EUR270 inc. VAT which is about what I paid... 😞 https://www.reichelt.com/de/en/sharkfin-4x4-mimo-4g-5g-2x2-mimo-wifi-gpsd4-6-60-d-p330428.html?r=1 Put the converter next to the router, and run the input 12V a long distance -- that'll be fine since it can accept 5V-30V at the input and still have a stable output.

In the house I watch all TV via an Amazon firestick on WiFi. Is this equally achievable on a boat, with a good WiFi set up?
-
If the router needs 12V, it might be as simple as making up a lead with a cigar style plug on one end, and the appropriate plug for the router on the other. No conversion to 230V AC (and back) needed then. In theory you could buy a 12V or USB powered 5G wifi router but they are expensive and it looks like you already have one anyway.

Evening, Sorry if this has already been covered but I haven't been able to find it! I've been struggling with internet, trying to stream NetFlic, or do video calls and I've decided to upgrade to a 5G wifi router. (Whole separate learning curve there!). However, my real problem is that I'm currently running a low-usage 12v boat (one 'car socket' with a USB conversion, & a couple of plugs running from an inverter (+pumps etc.)). The router's come with a standard AC to 12v DC converter, so atm my 'quick fix' is to leave the inverter on and plug it in. However, I was hoping someone may have had a similar dilemma, is there a way I can run it off a USB socket? Or will I have to bite the bullet and install a new 12v cigarette lighter? Should I be scared of running the inverter? (Juice comes from 2 bog-standard 6v Trojans in series)

Narrowboat - Internal Surveillance System Suggestions
PaulJ replied to Bugsworth Tippler's topic in Boat Equipment
The V380 IP cameras can be accessed (according to the manual) via an AP link which doesnt need a wifi network. You would need the V380 app on an Apple or Android phone/tablet to view. https://v380-camera.com/blogs/news/v380-ip-camera-installation-manual- 20 replies

Narrowboat - Internal Surveillance System Suggestions

I personally use Amazon Blink camera's - they are small battery units, with a controller running from 5v usb, but they do need a wifi connection to access them from a phone....- 20 replies

What Three Words - For the dinosaurs here :)

Then I cannot explain. When I am at home I can tell whether I'm at the front of the house, the rear of the house or in the front or rear garden. https://www.scienceabc.com/innovation/how-does-turning-on-wifi-improve-the-location-accuracy-of-a-device.html -

The system of determining a phones location from the location of the wifi falls to pieces when the wifi router moves, like it does on a boat. -

At the moment my phone is not connecting to WiFi as far as I can tell well not when I want it to... I think it does things when I am not watching it! I keep hitting the fan thing on settings but it won't come back on im mystified by the whole thing it's supposed to be a phone why does it need WiFi sorry, no need to explain I don't want to know

When using WiFi calling the phone itself uses the WiFi to talk to the router and not any G at all. The router deals with all the clever stuff and places the call over it's internet connection (probably 4G). If your router's internet connection works when 3G is switched off then wifi calling will work on your phones.

I thought it might be a good idea to get a second phone in case I lose my Three connected Hafury M20 which has two slots. You could. Or equally you could wait until such an event happens and then just pick up an unlocked one from a supermarket. ( Would this mean i could have two phone numbers and I would have to select outgoing call but phone would take either incoming calls.) Would I have two different networks. Yes, you would have two sim cards, both would be able to make outgoing and take incoming calls, assuming they had a network signal, and the phone battery was charged For outgoing calls you would need to have credit on the phone for all calls except 999.Some/most networks have an inactivity clause which stipulates that at least one chargeable call be made in <insert timescale here>, usually 3-6 months in order to keep the sim card active. It would make sense to have Sims on two separate networks for redundancy purposes, but use the network coverage checkers first to determine if you are likely to get a signal in your chosen locations. At the moment I am getting no Internet on my phone but I do on tablet using a router .both are Three, I have twin antennae on the roof wired to router Tesco seem to offer another phone Alcatel no WiFi £49.99, I think its PAYG,Does this mean it is only a phone Tesco use the 02 network. The sim will likely have Internet capability. The phone may not. You would have to look at the specific phone to find out. Assume you mean mobile Internet and not WiFi. It has 2G, so does this mean it has internet? But 2G is no use ? 2g will be very slow, but better than nothing for checking email. 3g is being switched off soon. I think Tesco don't use Three Correct What are these control systems of which you speak I have a router it works on the boat but I don't think I'd call it a control system I believe he is referring to the systems on his boat that allow him to remotely control certain items on board, such as turning the heating on.

Apparently the new cable mounts installed at the Marsden end have space for extra services into the tunnel, the idea is they are installing wifi like repeaters all the way through so the chaperones / tunnel control are able to be in contact all the way through. Maybe pushing towards unshadowed passages? For all there is 4/5 tunnel chaperones the shadow van driver needs a different ticket all together.

Happy to hear it's an improvement for you. You'd never want to go back to hanging your phone in the window as a WiFi source after using a proper modem (router) for a day, would you? The Poynting sitting inside the boat should improve the signal slightly but the best fringe reception is with it on a pole outside. The admin controls on the Huawei (via http://192.168.8.1/html/index.html) are a good place to begin. It'll probably need a firmware update. I found it helpful to play around with setting the 'antenna connection' to auto or external for best results. If needed, you can also send and receive SMS from within the same admin screen. Helpful if you need to recover a text code for some logon.

Huawei B535 router on O2 switched on today and already a strong wifi signal inside the boat and I haven't yet connected the Poynting aerial. All looking good for this year's cruise.

Wifi outdoor aerial for 3 huawei router .

Thanks IanD . Great bit of info on the WiFi . -
So the renter is going to come to the boat.....and get a handover on all the "quirks" of how things are done on a boat instead of a house? Then they're going to whack on the heating, boil a kettle while cooking dinner, then want a really long, hot shower. They might slum it and not have wifi, and/or telly. Or are your Airbnb residents not cooking on the boat, instead getting Uber Eats delivered to it? All for how much per night? Its worth considering; and probably worth talking to other airbnb hosts and/or renters. If you can make it as normal as possible to a normal* house, you can charge the going rate. Any quirks, lowers the appeal and the price. There's some expensive Airbnbs out there which never get let out; and some cheap ones which do. Which do you want to be?

Hi all . We have recently moved marina,s and now our 3 signal is a bit slow . Looking into weather we need a outdoor aerial and if so what other people are using . My understanding of WiFi is not the best 🤣 . Any pointers would be great .
