  1. Just come through Bedwyn on K & A at least four vehicles untaxed ( dumped ) by Sanitary facility.
  2. Back in Newbury after going to Bristol, I would think 80% were P*** takers, when will people get the message, CaRT ( I hate the name, BWB was better) they are a NAVIGATION authority Not a housing association.
  3. 46 wide locks in a day, thats whimpy boating, Top of Stockton to Tardebig Bottom with a pair, and still had time for barbecue and a pint.
  4. Just come up the Thames from Brentford, now at Newbury on K & A very quite only seen 5 boats on the move today, hope it continues all the way to Bristol and back!.
  5. in the old days, waterways used to start a fire in the bottom of a blocked ground paddle culvert when they had a lock drained down. It was a bit like a chimney fire, it drew like a good un. You could try this and if the obstructions get burnt to a cinder they should come out easy.
  6. Free air through a flying saucer is about 3000 sq mm, a 4inch mushroom is about 7500 sq mm, a total no brainer really, get the best ventilation you can, the boat will feel a lot better for it.
  7. I was there, I was captain on Peter Frouds "Jupiter& Saturn", happy days, On the way back I jumped ships, swopped jobs with Jack Hatchard, I finished up with "Comet & Dabchick" but thats all another story.
  8. Only 5mins between posts, it takes my dog longer than that to have a good pee!
  9. Before mooring opposite the marina once, I asked the boats opposite if anyone was going out that evening, the reply I got was " we never go anywhere", so I stayed the night.
  10. As we say up North, where ere you be, let your exhaust blow free.
  11. Drove through Weedon today and saw new Tesco Metro (small) store where the hotel was on the main junction with traffic light A5 / M1 to Daventry. Only 5min walk from op. old Concoform yard or Heart of England moorings.
  12. First went there in 1961, when Hotel boating, happy days indeed, I sometimes wish I had been born 50 years earlier, no continous moorer's, hedges you could see over and just a open cut.
  13. My mother had a brush that she had had for forty years, it had had five new stales and five new heads.
  14. If you don't have a properly adjusted expansion device fitted when you heat a "cold" water calorifier the expanding water will only come from one or two places i.e. the PRV or worse still has been known to push a fitting apart. If you don't have a PRV, just turn of the pump and leave a tap open, you would be surprised how much water is displaced.
  15. I remember "Elk" in the 50's it used to tie at the bottom of Bosley Locks on the off side.
  16. When there was a towpath through, there were little shelters like in railway tunnels so you could get out of the way of the horse if you were walking through. I only remember them from 1956, the first I boated through. You had to take the tiller pin out and tie a plank to the side of the cabin to protect it.
  17. I just press the buttons on my remote control, up, down, left or right. Even on and off from my pocket.
  18. THERE IS NO MORE ROOM IN LONDON FOR LIVE-ABOARD, CONTINOUS CRUISERS OR CONTINOUS MOORERS. GO TO THE NORFOLK BROADS.
  19. Never mind the engine, can we have a close up of the Loo!.
  20. Belzona, now there's a name I haven't heard for a while, can you still get it? (not as I need any) but always handy just in case.
  21. Elsan Blue, nothing to beat it, nice smell, nice colour and not to expensive, works OK in Porta Loo.
  22. "Victoria" went past my look out station (The Boat) in Berkhamsted at 1600 today.
  23. As someone said a couple of weeks ago "Tie up and shut up" I have started using it all the time.
  24. Key been left in ignition switch for 35years (only seems like yesterday when it went in for first time). If it gets lost I have about 10 others, or I could use a screwdriver.
