  1. Just what is needed for the tug of war. The unseen advantage
  2. probably one of the stupidest post I have seen on here. Have you given any thought to your sharp objects getting caught on something that ends up around a propeller and the person cleaning the said propeller gets some lovely cuts from youe safe method of disposal - what a dipstick
  3. In the event of a number of members from this forum deciding to stand, lets say it is 3 people, less would be better but stay with three. Those people with a vote could vote just for those three and NO OTHER candidates, then you are increasing the chances of the people you want on the council by not giving votes to others. Obviously the lesser numbers you spread you vote around means a better chance to get the person you want on council. If there was only one candidate from this forums membership and everybody voted just for him or her then they would have a better chance of being elected.
  4. If you have a snail or slug in there then block the outlet and fill up with a strong salt solution. The salt will dissolves the snail/slug and you can flush the remains out.
  5. The butty is Bakewell. Could we have those strapping posts reinstated.
  6. While I agree a link might be usefull you could do what I did and look for it on Google, I do not like to put direct links as many people will or should be wary of opening them as you do not know what may be at the end of a link.
  7. Just watched Sentinals of Safety on You Tube ( I found it by accident but then looked again via google and found it ). At either 7-20 mins or 8-20 if the advertisment is shown before the start, you will get a brief few seconds of interest to boaters, although the film on its own is worth watching. There are several versions and the one I watched is the second on the google list.
  8. Look on ebay at " mechanical rev counter drive " IIRC speedy cables will make up the drive cable that you will need.
  9. A left handed centre drill would be even better. They are available and are not to be mixed up with rubber hammers for glass nails, tartan paint, long waits ( weights ) and all the other things to that apprentices and juniors etc had to endure. Also for new studs if you can get it in a small length some Aluminum bronze would be a very good choice of material.
  10. The Fontinettes boat lift on the Canal de Neufosse, near Saint Omer in the Pas-de-Calais
  11. For those with catchup TV. The Andrew Marr show today ( 9th Nov ) has an interview with Emma Smith ( one of the wartime boaters ). Start time is 52min and 40 sec.
  12. Looking at the Yarwoods boats that end in 9 and the shape of the part number that can be seen my money would be on Thaxted
  13. The Narrowboat trust takes the motor boat partly loaded to the end once a year ( xxxxs law this year we did not have to ). Its a bit shallow in places ( now dredged ) and can be weedy, never had any problems with anything being thrown at us. The end part will be a non event its just stops at a road bridge, We moor up to do a delivery about 200yds from the end and you cannot get in close but that is with about 3'2" draft at the back. For us it is a days run there and back at this time of the year with the delivery to do.
  14. Apart from the lamps look at the moulding planes, what a collection

    Best knot?

Also known as a chain hitch.
  16. Unimaster in Newbury have a superb range of unified, BA, BSP nuts bolts etc. Only a short walk from the wooden bridge near the marina as you come into Newbury from the Reading direction http://www.unimaster.co.uk
  17. As all cilling problems occur due to only one factor, the boat in question is too far back in the lock. Having watched many boats locking down floating midway between the gates at each end why are people not told. "put the front end on the gate and leave it ticking over in forward gear"
  18. Some boats run to a schedule with crew changes that take place at specific places - train tickets have been bought well in advance and other transport arranged hence the need to be at a certain place on time. 23 hours lost stuck in a bridgehole takes a bit to try and make up as much as you can without doing any damage to the infrastructure. I personally would be in favour of putting the onus on a moored boat to do it properly and not have to be up and down on the speed wheel all the time.
  19. Would aluminium sheet need to be treated before painting onto it? Etching primer as the first coat and then will it react with the paint your artist will use and be a problem.
  20. Put some food dye in the cooling system - it will show where the water is coming from.
  21. As you have shore power then the battery chargers that sense the voltage and cut in and out as required will work well for your requirement. I have one of these on a little used car and its really good. Google Banner Accuguard
  22. Which side of the lift bridge at Thrupp was this please, the crews changed over at Thrupp if it was on Sunday then Twbm was not there but I was. If any of you are interested we will be loading in September at Awbridge so you can come along and help if you want to, this will give you an opportunity to see how the draft changes as the load goes on. Some of you may have seen us on the run from Thrupp to Alvecote we had about 18 Tonnes on spread between the pair. We had a lot of help, cooperation and friendly comments from many of the boaters we met on this run and I would like to thank them. Barry Adams ( crewing co-ordinator for the Narrowboat Trust )
  23. With the advent of digital cameras a 35mm film camera can be bought for very little money along with an impressive looking telephoto lens. Film does go off but a roll a year might be a good buy. Lets hope they do not think to get the cable just under the H2o so you can go over it until the prop catches. Scrap copper fetches good money by the way
