  1. I can't imagine any insurance company paying out for someone who is drunk falling into a river or canal because there are no 'idiot barriers'. People need to take responsibility for their own foolishness.
  2. Snowflake world we now live in ... inconvenience the majority for the sake of the feckless minority.

  4. Actually, they are exempt from tax but choose to make a 'contribution' of which we are not allowed to be informed - certainly says to me that if they were paying a fair share it would not be a secret ! The Crown has a legal tax-exempt status because certain acts of parliament do not apply to it. Crown bodies such as The Duchy of Lancaster are not subject to legislation concerning income tax, capital gains tax or inheritance tax. Furthermore, the Sovereign has no legal liability to pay such taxes. The Duchy of Cornwall has a Crown exemption and the Prince of Wales is not legally liable to pay income tax on Duchy revenues. A "Memorandum of Understanding on Royal Taxation" was published on 5 February 1993 and amended in 1996, 2009 and 2013. It is intended that the arrangements in the memorandum will be followed by the next monarch. The memorandum describes the arrangements by which The Queen and The Prince of Wales make voluntary payments to the HM Revenue and Customs in lieu of tax to compensate for their tax exemption. The details of the payments are private. The Queen voluntarily pays a sum equivalent to income tax on her private income and income from the Privy Purse (which includes the Duchy of Lancaster) that is not used for official purposes. The Sovereign Grant is exempted. A sum equivalent to capital gains tax is voluntarily paid on any gains from the disposal of private assets made after 5 April 1993. Many of the Sovereign's assets were acquired earlier than this date but payment is only made on the gains made afterwards. Arrangements also exist for a sum in lieu of inheritance tax to be voluntarily paid on some of the Queen's private assets. Property passing from monarch to monarch is exempted, as is property passing from the consort of a former monarch to the current monarch.[31]
  5. Proves money can't buy you taste
  6. My Karcher failed in the same way - caused by me not unscrewing the pipe with the lance on it from the main body of the unit for the winter. Water froze and split the U shaped part - found a replacement on Ebay and its been fine ever since - I now unscrew the pipe for the winter and make sure the thing is empty of water.
  7. Similar thoughts from me, it depends what you intend to use the printer for mostly. We have occasional document and photo printing so we use inkjet. Previous experience has taught me to check the cost of the replacement cartridges, our current printer is an Epson and seems to cope with infrequent use. Previously we had an HP printer and it would clog on the black ink and eventually i binned it because it would not clear without a lot of fiddling about. There are some very good prices out there at the moment, check supermarkets etc as some of their prices are unbeatable. Good alternative cartridge suppliers will save you a nice amount of cash - these guys are good >>> https://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/articles/what-is-the-difference-between-original-and-compatible-cartridges
  8. There was an application for five houses to be built where the pub is - permission was declined so not sure what is currently proceeding. Just found this >> https://apps.stratford.gov.uk/eplanning/AppDetail.aspx?appkey=OQ5LTJPMHO300 Change of use to a single dwelling.
  9. For a quick and simple BBQ we use one of these - easy to store, clean and is quick to come up to temperature - still uses charcoal but you don't get the flare up's etc as the charcoal is in a central container. https://www.cuckooland.com/brand/lotus-grill/lotus-grill-bbq-in-orange-with-free-fire-lighter-gel-and-charcoal?gclid=Cj0KCQiAp8fSBRCUARIsABPL6Jaa0Fp4oM5JHMRXBi2G72qYQxOZvd4XLggidrJT_CSwSyWrPSnVBk8aAlQwEALw_wcB

  11. Having recently bought a boat from Whilton, I think your understanding is slightly incorrect. We were told that any safety issues that would cause a BSS fail would be fixed at the cost of the seller - there were two for our boat and they were fixed effectively by a drop in the price to reflect that work. I think you need to check what exactly would result in a price reduction for work identified that needs doing.
  12. All the final salary pensions are at risk of not paying out - they have to do something to keep them viable otherwise many thousands will suffer. Not what you want to hear I know but the pension administrators would be failing in their duties if they did not attempt to fix the issue.
  13. Claymills is also an interesting poo pumping station >> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claymills_Pumping_Station

Quite scary - i have seen mention before but found this useful >> https://www.webmd.boots.com/a-to-z-guides/drowning
  15. I experienced the disapproval of having an opinion with this guy too on the Facebook boating group page ! It was his post regarding 'school children cruising pattens' proposal by CRT. He was not nice at all, I ended up hiding his posts.
  16. i am intrigued why you do the above, would you not want some air circulation ? Asking as I have to consider the winter preparation soon (did a coolant part change / anti freeze top up today).
  17. You come onto a forum asking for advice, it's given warning of the challenges of being a live aboard. Your response is to be shitty and rude .... what do you expect ? Do us a favour and stay on the dry luv !
  18. If the guy has no insurance then the boat should be impounded by the police - surely it's criminal damage ? Or is it different on the cut.
  19. I suspect you will end up damaging your boat and / or the actual structure of the tunnels. The tunnel walls are all uneven and have suspect brick work in places, this surely will catch or break off if in contact with these wheels.
  20. We have a Kabola HR300 and initial impressions are good (We have owned the boat 3 months). Ours has a timer and standard room thermostat (something many of the others are not recommended to have), along with individual thermostats on the radiators. Warm up is very fast (first radiator gets warm after a couple of minutes). Our previous boat had a Webasto and it used to suffer from the cycling that others report - often leading to running issues over time.
  21. Very similar for a gastroscopy, positives are its the nicer end and no air injected before the procedure
  22. looks lovely - wishing you many happy years cruising !
  23. We used the graphics boat for our first boat vinyls - very good quality. https://www.thegraphicsboat.co.uk
