I think that is part of the problem - there does seem to be much myth and inaccuracy about this boat - a bit like Rat T's first post (no offence Ray, I know you will have posted in good faith) that she was off to the Thames to be sold and then she ends up on brokerage in deepest South Derbyshire...

She will join another boat on brokerage at Mercia that also has joystick steering, WB - Kittle has a similar set up.

Would be fun to give one or both a spin (no pun intended) just to see if they are as bad as has been claimed by some.

I can see a use for that box on the back.

Hiding from the kids, with the laptop, a kettle, a little woodburner and lots of books.

Don't get be wrong, Lord Muck is in the market for a second boat at the moment to use in just that way. I think my dad terms the thing you're on about, 'a sulking 'oil'

Meant to check when we were at the Marina last Saturday what the score was with Whitfield but each time we went past the N&U boat Co. staff were busy with customers and I wasn't gong to bother them with a trivial query.

What was noticeable though was whilst all the adjacent boats were opened up front and rear and had obvious signs of 'i'm for sale' about them.

Whitfield remained steadfastly under all her covers...front, rear (including those over the rear rather too high seats on the back of the stern). I don't reckon she is on brokerage yet....she's still not on their web site either, not even under latest arrivals...

Linky thing..

Well he won't have to worry about getting ths windows broken by stone-throwing yobs, and following on from a couple of security related posts elsewhere on the forum, the boat also looks pretty secure impenetrable to me.

I like the BW quote:-

A spokesman said: 'We do have size limits - a narrow boat cannot be more than seven feet wide and seventy feet long.'

Where is the boat? What are the size limits on that waterway?

We passed it a couple of weeks ago moored up at Botany Bay.

I doubt it will have any problems lenghtwise, I think its closer to fifty foot than the 70 feet the article claims, still you can't expect the Mail to let facts get in the way. :banghead:

After passing it on our way to Wigan we came across four or five semi-submerged boats in its wake I suppose we should be grateful that the Mail didn't know about them

Couldn't see any evidence of windows or portholes presumably using some sort of overhead illumination, prisms possibly.

I was rather more amused by the 7 foot width limit quoted by the BW person, the boat does look as though it's within the 62' length limit for the L&L.

The secret is finally out, £170,000-00 will; buy the boat of your dreams, or nightmares. It all depends on your opinion I suppose, and mine hasnt changed since I first saw it at Crick. Viewing by appointment only by the way.

You beat me to it! - as I had difficulty logging in yesterday after a week away and had to go through the rigmarole of changing my password before I could submit posts. The New & Used Boat Co have taken a full-page advert for Whitefield, so they must have confidence in its potential; either that, or the owners are funding the advert.

or they are aware of how much of a talking point it is so the tyre kickers might turn up and, maybe, walk away having bought a more sensible boat.

Yup I can confirm what they are asking for it - spoke to one of the N&U boat co. staff yesterday at our Marina, dig deep....

£170K in some ways is probably a reasonable first go at a price given the amount of work by Fernwood and expensive technology that got pumped into the boat. However it of course doesn't mean someone is prepared to pay that for it. It's a tough sell I imagine to a limited market.

Mind you in some ways if I had to choose between the two I might plump for Whitefield rather than Dover. Although Dover (see other thread) looks traditional from the outside inside it was ruined in my view with too many gadgets and modern look to appeal to me.

Whitefield though has a slight but noticeable list to starboard when you see her moored....could just be a full poo tank on that side or one on the opposite side that needs filling - either way if I was paying £170K for a boat I would want her trimmed perfectly....

I think Dover probably fell to about £90K without finding a ready buyer, so you could virtually buy two Dovers for one Whitefield, (although lets watch Whitefield fall!...)

I don't like what's been done to Dover, but at least it's a boat that you know you can go boating with without many issues, (other than bottom of canal to close to top - a hazard with any ex working boat, really). I can't see Whitefield as a practical cruising boat.

I could live with Dover's interior and modern gadgetry if I had to.

I guess what I like least is an attempt at an "under cloth" conversion, but by trying to add a bit more interior space by putting a seriously over-wide "top plank" on it, they have ended up with something that looks silly. I think they could have stuck with the correct profile to the cloths, and really not made the interior that much more claustrophobic.

Dunno as I have never seen it for real other than quick glance at Crick. I wouldn't actually want it or think it's nice but it is at least not masquerading as something other than it is ie a rich man's toy compared to Dover which for me is much worse.

I have - she is moored at our marina and I walked past her at least four or five times at the weekend, checked each time I went by to satisfy myself I wasn't imagining things - I wasn't.

I agree with your comments about the profile I doubt it would make a difference inside to the space impression. Personally although much cheaper than Whitefield potentially I just couldn't live with the interior. The boat was spoiled for me. If I was on the look out for a working boat conversion it just wouldn't do for me. The outside is fine but just couldn't reconcile myslef to the inside.

Don't like Whitefield much either but as I said to MJG at least it's what it is and a consistent design.

You may need some other point of reference. You could be just hallucinating consistently

ah that's it then, I really thought it could be something just like that, thanks for that.
