Ryeland
It looks like Comastic is no longer manufactured, due to the new regulations banning coal tar from Jan 2019. Does anyone know of a supplier who still has some in stock please? My boat has been blacked with Comastic from new, and I would like to carry on using it for as long as possible. Sea Dog
Note to self: buy shares in a canalside grit blasting company - they're gonna have 2 or 3 bumper years!

I still prefer good old tried and tested bitumen. Present boat is now ten years old and had bitumen every two years since new by first owner and twice now by me. The hull is still totaly mint, a forum member blacked it at his yard and remarked how good it is. I do use comastic for the well deck as it dries hard. MHS
Our boat had Comastic from new. We are booked in for blacking in July and have chosen SML Balastic Black. Looking forward to seeing our 4 year old boat out of the water for the first time.
Dr Bob
They banned red lead paint as well. That has never really been replaced. Coal tar contains carcinogens so it was only a matter of time in this nanny state.

Tea tree oil has been substituted. Maybe your GP can prescribe something for you ? Apparently some of the West Indian specialist food shops still (illegally) supply Coal tar based products (Soap etc) Allegedly Brixton market is 'full of it'. The UK is a major manufacturer of coal tar based products but they are manufactured only 'for export to non-EU countries' Edited June 2, 2018 by Alan de Enfield

Another cost to the NHS that I was previously bearing myself. No wonder there's not enough money.
