Halfords Socket Set Deal.

I have the older version of this set and the quality is superb. Also bought on offer I think for £99 a good few years ago now though.

The lifetime guarantee is a good point too.

I kept this one at home and got a smaller one for the boat. Same excellent quality and guarantee on both. Both my torque wrenches and my screw driver set are all also Halfords professional too. Cant fault them.

Yep they are very good quality, this is the second set I've bought.

You can't go wrong with them can you :-)

What went wrong with your first set, GL?

I use to mess with land-rovers and stored the sockets under the seat loose and the box got flung.

I still have all the bits and bobs but their here their and fecking everywhere. :-/

This time I will keep them in the box like I should of done the first time

I bought my brother one of those sets a few months ago. The quality is amazingly good. My office is above a workshop which gets visited by MAC tools on Tuesdays and Snap On on Fridays. I'd say the Halfords Professional tools are pretty much on par with Snap On for build quality but at a far keener price.

Snap on is ridiculously overpriced.

Haha I will be making sure those locking tabs on the box are clamped proper, I don't fancy playing the 250 card pickup challenge. :-/

I've done that trick far too many times. Lol

Apart from being overpriced Snap On are not very good quality IMHO. I've had two open end spanners break at the jaws but Snap On did replace them without quibble. I call them Snap Off tools now.

Snap Off haha.

Dewalt is not as good as it use to be either , the last rechargeable drill did not last 6 months before it fell to bits inside, now their prices have come down massively as well.

I have the smaller set, as well as the little 1/4 inch set, which with a set of britool combination spanners is very nice.

My inner tool snob would rather not have a high street brand stamped on the side, but I must say I cannot fault the quality of the Halfords Professional/Advanced range, and while I have heard it worth keeping a photocopy of the receipt have managed to get replacement parts under the life time warranty so far, occasional mild encouragement is needed but they do have the parts there to give you.

I've had a Halfords socket set very similar the one above for at least 15 years now. It's had quite heavy use during that time on cars and boats etc and not been treated that well!

I've had to replace the ratchet mechanism a couple of times on the 1/4" ratchet (not covered under guarantee) and replaced some of the splined bits under guarantee including 3 in one day! I find their lifetime guarantee generally very good on their tools with no questions asked when I go in with badly damaged tools and no receipt.

I was told by the tools specialist in my local B&Q that Dewalt have been bought by Black and Decker and they have reduced the quality of some Dewalt internal componants so you can expect them to be not as good as they were

When searching for brushes for my B&D router it came up with a couple of other makes as well, I think Dewalt was one of them for the same parts,

No bloody wonder it did not last, thank for letting me know.

I think I will buy a Bosch next time. :-)

I bought an equivalent one from Lidl for £69.95.superb quality, they still make an appearance now and then.

Can't be bad it's nice to have them their all tidy in a box ready for the play days isn't it. :-)

Mmm. I'm leaning more and more towards the Bosch professional line (the blue ones rather than green)

Oh no! I've upgraded to cordless DeWalt drill, impact driver and angle grinder, and I'm getting their toolboxes for Xmas. I feel a deep depression coming on...no hang on a minute, they do look good and that's all that matters. Edited by nb Innisfree

Snap on may be pricey but in my opinion they are the best for professionals. Any decent garage I've ever been in the mechanics always will have snap on tools.

Darren

A lot of mechanics and met technicians do use Snap On but it takes them literally years to aquire due to the cost, I worked with another mechanic and his roller box cost over 20k.

He was in debt also to the Snap on bloke who came in his van every week to collect his money.

Crazy

They'll be ok.

The guy also said that because of the takeover Dewalt would downgrade from top of the range to upper middle range. Whilst Black and Decker would upgrade from bottom of the range to lower middle
