It is now, but I believe that wasn't its original purpose. Searching for water taxi doesn't bring up any other boats that look like this one..

I've seen boats that look a lot like this one in and around Amsterdam. Harbour, they were crew- tenders for the Dutch Royal Navy.

Some of these ended up as Watertaxis, until they were replaced with purpose build Watertaxis.This one could have been one of them.

The hull is a fairly standard fast launch not dissimilar, though larger, to the Venetian water taxis.

I swear I saw a boat just like that on the GU last Spring. I like it - look how that hull curves all the way from bow to stern the Dutch know how to build steel boats don't they.

Looks like a high speed patrol boat to me.

 

Probably got two massive power units in it or maybe they have been replaced with smaller ones to increase space inside.

Ormelite produced narrow beam cabin cruisers not dissimilar to this in the late 1950's-1960's.

It's not a traditional English narrowboat, but then again, it's not pretending to be!

Buit for the air draft of the Amsterdam waterways so below 2.3 meter height. Not a pritty boat seen loads better looking than that.
